  1. I was at the Reno air races and videoed the front section of all laps. The collision was just prior to landing (on base leg), and the theory was one pilot (I won't mention names) lost sight of the other from the sun

  2. Back in the 90s Bush sr cut defense spending by quite a lot and aircraft maintenance was bad.
The Navy was losing a lot of aircraft and we had an air National Guard base in Springfield, Oh and there was a mishap with an F-16 that came right down on the freeway during rush hour traffic.
I don’t remember if anyone was hurt or not but the pilot ejected and that’s where the plane came down.
It was right near a major intersection between two major highways so it only stood to reason that it would come down on one of them

  3. There are 6 locations listed as the next race arenas. It'll be on the left side of the country. I'll try to post a link. Dan Milican (Taking Off / In the Hangar) interviewed the CEO at Osh and that's what he said.

  4. Hi Gonky and Mover and also Doug!

i love the banter and making fun of the different services that you had! and i guess the mental health section is probably helping more than you may realise. it also helps others to help others, if that make sense.

    Kind regards from the Netherlands.

  5. Re: MB339 crash.
Is it common to allow vehicles on a road crossing the end of a runway when aircraft are talking off / landing?
I grew up near RAF Brize Norton (UK). There are traffic lights to stop vehicles on the road when an aircraft is approaching. Is that unusual?
The road at the other end is half a mile beyond the runway, so no lights there. (Although there is a footpath right at that end of the runway with no restrictions or warnings).
Is this because it's a transport aircraft runway and not fast jets? Is stopping the traffic more about not having drivers startled by low aircraft than stopping aircraft hitting cars?
(The end of the active runway is 200 metres from the road, so I don't think it's about jet blast. Or is it?)

  6. So yeah, the New York Post is reporting that the pilot ejected due to bad weather yet the wingman experienced no issues. I was under the impression the weather issue had been corrected in the F35. What's the point in having a fighter that's not an all weather fighter?

  7. That's what the crash of Delta 191 at DFW in '85. The plane, due to windshear and an approaching storm, impacted 1 mile short of DFW, taking a car out on 114. The wind from the oncoming storm and severe windshear from above was too much to maintain speed when a downward shot of wind and a break in between the gusts from the headwind. 20+ knts in a few seconds either way and on final at the lowest part of the flight, left no time to adjust the throttles to maintain flight. In fact, the captain was experienced enough to trust his hands to that of the auto pilot because he took the controls and timed it right a couple of times before radio silence. They had been with Delta for years.

  8. Am I the only one who thinks Gonky seems like the best dude/friend ever? I mean Lemoins is a really cool dude…but damn that Gonky seems like a real great guy! I must admit I am turning into a real Gonky fan, I mean the guy used to get 1 wires on the carrier…how cool is that!? (disclamer: English is not my first language, so sorry for any mistakes)

  9. So gonky is right about the P-51 crash. It literally hit the table VIP section. So you had the grandstands or bleachers. Then in front of them where the cheerleaders would hangout is where the table section was set up. That’s where the plane crashed. Had it been 20’ back or 20yards back / right. It literally would’ve killed 50-100 probably.
