The Powell factory was constructed on the Bowling Branch line which curved northeast behind the Bowling Dye Works, now Kemira Chemicals. Area was redeveloped in the 1970s. The branch line would have run diagonally across the footprint. On north end with earthwork was the Bowling Mill between the main and branch lines. At the south end the terraced houses on New Cross Street were noted as almshouses. So not only a clean well maintained site, Powell factory repurposed disused industrial land and incorporated nice architectural details.
