  1. It was Stax, not Sun.

Epstein met with Steve Cropper who did a lot of the producing at Stax. Yes, it did come down to money. Stax was charging a ridiculous amount of money for studio time.

    Epstein said no.

  2. They were never really going to leave the comforts of Abbey Road and all their handlers. This is a hugely overblown myth. Although Stax horns on Got to Get You into My Life would have been something!

  4. They should have recorded get back in Memphis. The sound they were looking is a vintage rock and roll for the get back sessions. I know Sam Phillips opened up a second more modern studio in 1960. Sadly not many hits were recorded there other than wooly bully by Sam and the Pharos.

  5. The Beatles members apparently wanted Elvis to sing the same kind of songs in his 30s that he sang at 20.
Artists mature and evolve just as they did.
It would be like me complaining that they didn't sing songs like She Loves You anymore by the late '60s
They were unrealistic in what they expected from Elvis.
The man put on a concert seen by over one billion people in 1973 ( televised worldwide from Hawaii)
