My name is Chris Green and I love to share stories from British history. Not just because they are interesting but because, good or bad, they have shaped the world we live in today.
History should not be stuffy or a long list of dates or kings & queens.
So rather than lectures or Youtube animations, I tell stories that bring the past to life.
My aim is to be chat as if I were having a coffee or meal with you. Jean in Maryland, USA recently wrote: “Chris, is the history teacher I wish I had at school!”
Just for the record, I do have a history degree in Medieval & Modern history from the University of Birmingham.

Everyone conveniently forgets that the Arabs and the winning African tribes in their local wars, were an essential part of the slave trade in Africa.
Your channel is great, and I love these chats.👍👍
I'm an American…it's cool do a story…like to learn more on the recipients of the Dicken Medal
Britain was the first country to ban slavery in England. Then round the world something teachers often forget to mention.
Fortunately as a youngster I spent a few years in Goa a former Portuguese colony. They love the British.
Chris i have to say youre the perfect history teacher telling the stories with passion , love it keep up the awesome work
Hi Chris , be enjoyed your topics for some time now . But as a new close follower , let me introduce myself as a veteran Scots Guards Officer who fought and was injured on Mount Tumbledown in the Falklands islands on 14th June 1982.
Keep up the great work.
Robert Lawrence MC.
Just to add to my military history. 1 Grandfather Gassed in WW1 the other RNAS & then RAF. 1 x Great Uncle KIA in Lancaster bomber over Berlin. 1 x Great Uncle KIA in bomb disposal in Coventry WWII
Father RAF. Mother RAF . Brother Scots Guards . Son Scots Guards . Father in law – RTR and then Indian Army Cavalry Regiment.
Just a standard UK Family.
Finally: 😀 two interesting facts to take with you from Barries family research . We have another MC, awarded to James Brand Pinker Royal field artillery 1918 ( much removed cousin of Gran) …. and more shockingly , given the Scots Guards history- a”plausible link” to the regicide and republican Henry Martin mp one of the most prominent of 59 who signed d Charles 1 ‘s death warrant ! ..
I grew up next to Newport. The hotel still had bullet holes from the Chartist riots, something they were proud of.
The walkway into Joh Frost Square had a big mural about the march, I was sad to hear they had allegedly taken that down (it's been a long time since I've ben back there)
I know I'm only one voice, but I wouldn't mind at all if you did sponsorships.
I don't have enough money to do memberships, you deserve something for the time effort and expertise, so if sponsorships is what it takes to see your great videos then go for it.
Hi, Chris,
Always enjoy your stories.
So. I understand Portugal is England's oldest European ally…I thought that was from the Napoleonic times but…must be earlier
the 60th. King's Royal Rifles …great tegiment…though a colonial now…my ancestors fought in Canada 1750's on …gor the King through the Rebellion…back to Europe and then somehow we moved here later
More highway men stories, including the one about “16 string Jack” there’s a pub at theydon bois Essex named after him.
Major Leroy was the American Loyalist in Sharpe
Excellent. A meet up sounds like a fine idea. Thanks Chris.
I was interested in Portugal.. Just catching up on them with a YouTube vid of the history.. so while I was thinking of adventure and exploring..I stumbled upon your YouTube program. A history buff…. ?
It's hard not to like … Winston.. personality and politicking. He certainly had regrets .. A long while in the freezer..
Please under no circumstances get all your supporters in a house. I read enough Agatha Christie. I have seen countless episodes of Midsomer , Morse, Lewis, Vera, Father Brown… It would be devastating to your channel. You'd have no supporters left (the deceased cannot click the Youtube like button). Also, you deep dark secrets going back generations of your family will be exposed.
