  1. I think some devs are too focused on making pokemon but not pokemon. Temtem is all double battles but slightly different mechanic, with a story that wouldn't be amiss in a pokemon game. Nexomon 1 is of the same vein (not tried extinction). The games don't do enough to create their own identity in the gameplay, stories and tone. If the only variation in the genre is going to be in the monster designs and battle systems, then it's going to get old fast. I'm not really interested in games that aren't trying to break the mold enough.

  2. I really want to play Shin Megami Tensei V but so I do so many other games, I was hoping it would go on sale during black week but it sadly didn't. It has never been on sale thus far in the E-Shop. I think a lot more people would be give it a shot if it was promoted more often, spending 60 bucks to dive into a new franchise is a commitment not everyone is willing to make.

  3. Your last comment reminded me of this quote:

β€œWhen I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up.” – C. S. Lewis.

But yeah, I agree, more monster taming games with interesting ideas and different audiences in mind should always be welcome.

  4. Man I'd love to see a game where you get to be the "demon lord" and gather an army of mythological creatures to your side. I've never quite found a game that scratched that itch properly.

  5. In all honesty even if the game gave me an option to be bad I’ll still end up taking the good route πŸ˜… first play through of Digimon survive I answered the questions in the same way I would react if I was in the characters shoes and I ended up getting the morality route. I want more games like SMT V and Thaumaturge though

  6. There was one game years ago on ps3 that I remembered having a very mature theme. Can't remember the title but there were a male and female protagonist and the monsters you tamed were called Fae or Faeries.

  8. Digimon really is the intersection between Pokemon and Shin Megami Tensei isn't it

    like, think about it

Even in the more lighthearted series and game, there's still some really messed up things in there. Also, consider the main demographic that seemed best suited for the franchise was teens (not kids, even though they tried various times). While there's more stuff centered towards adults nowadays, I think digimon does best when catering to teens.

Its a shame Bandai tends to treat the franchise like a black sheep half the time.

  9. Completely agreed. Alot of times, when writers try to forcefully be dark and/ or deep, the story often falls flat because there's nothing really meaningful about it. So, games that try to tackle mature/dark topics while still being meaningful are all the more great additions to the monster taming landscaoe.

  10. Anybody here who liked the thaumaturge demo, its time period, setting, dark themes and mood and focus on a leveling few monsters rather than catching hundreds and like turn based rpg battles might want to look into the shadow hearts series on ps2. Theyre masterpieces and thaumaturge most likely took a lot of inspiration from them. They even have historical figures like rasputin in them and the protag yuri is a badass who tranforms into demons and angels to fight. The original creators are working on a spiritual successor to the series called penny blood too which looks amazing. If this is news to anyone theyre worth looking into.
