‘We literally don’t have the boat’: Australia to deny US a warship

Sky News host Caleb Bond says Australia is set to deny the US Navy request for a warship.

The US launched a multi-country coalition to protect ships passing through the Red Sea after weeks of drone and ballistic missile attacks by Iranian-backed Houthi rebels.

Mr Albanese indicated he would not send a warship to join the task force as he denounced the Houthi militant attacks.

“I understand why we’re not doing it,” Mr Bond said.

“We literally don’t have the boat to send.

“That’s a problem for us to deal with on one hand but God it makes us look weak.”

Mr Bond was joined by The Australian’s Foreign Editor Greg Sheridan to discuss the request from the United States.

  1. The reasons make a lot of sense. This policy direction was established by the Morrison government several years ago. Like I said yesterday, please give e Greg Sheridan a hanky!

"Australia is facing “an increasingly challenging strategic environment which is placing greater demand on ADF resources closer to home”, a senior Australian political figure said.

“As a result, the Australian Defence Force will reduce its naval presence in the Middle East to enable more resources to be deployed in our region.”

Not the Albanese government, which has been accused by the Coalition of presiding over an “international embarrassment” by not sending a warship. Instead it was Linda Reynolds, the then defence minister in the Morrison government, who announced the shift in Australia’s military priorities in October 2020."

  2. Proves what I have been saying. Surface ships are just a paper weights waiting to take their place on the sea floor and our so called leaders know this. The ALP will celebrate its position in the CCP !!!! Dreams do come true even for political parties. I again thank all those who blindly voted for the ALP!! Cheers Good Job.

  3. Australia is becoming more and more of an embarrassment every day this Marxist government waffles away and blows money on woke BS and that includes nuclear submarines – this money would be better served in nuclear power stations which would benefit all of Australia.

  4. We cannot send one ship, one ship? Absolutely shameful! I simply can't believe that the RAN does not have one ship that can assist in an effort to support shipping. We live on a bloody island and are one of the worlds highest user of commercial shipping. If you voted for Albo you are part of the problem, he is making a mockery of our country and our people.
Travelling the world for little outcome, and now failing to support the very allies that we signed on to support.

  5. Australia should just stay neutral on this. Unless these issues directly impact us, I say stay neutral and focus on issues in the Pacific and also domestic issues. Also, been neutral and having links to allies of both sides, such as China and the US, can mean that we can become a mediator between Israel and Palestine for a ceasefire and also, between Russia and Ukraine for a ceasefire. If I was running the country, I would base the political system on staying neutral and promoting diplomatic peace. I declare this as Democratic-Neutralism. We support Democracy, Freedom of Speech, and staying Neutral and equal where we can & stand our own ground where we must.

  7. ==============================================
=== Britain stationed various warships in Australia ===

    after WW2..

My father, Lieutenant-Commander Roderick Wilmot, DSC,
commanded HM Submarine Tactician in the early 1950s,
    was based in Sydney,
and was engaged in operations off Korea.

No single nation has sufficient force
    to fight alone,
    so it makes sense
    to pool resources

We all face growing threats globally,
    yet our political systems
    are determined
to ram the woke agenda down our throats,
and to weaken the unified nation
    to favour global power
that has zero input from the people,
being 100 percent under the control
    of people beyond accountability.

    In other words,
    a global tyranny.

    In other words,

a global tyranny – broadly western
    is facing off against
a global tyranny – broadly eastern

Neither bode well for our future.

  8. Amazing how we have a defence budget of 47-52 billion USD yet have a horrible navy even when it clearly is the most valuable thing to have with our geographical location and our enemy being china which in the case of a war, would be primarily be fought with the navy and air force assets with a good portion needing to be taken off from a ship. Either way the fact that we have such a good defense budget yet a horrible military shows how horrible we are with this government.
