The Bible does not need to contain the precise phrase “water baptism is a work of man” in order to clearly teach salvation by faith alone. It’s elementary. John 3:16-salvation is given to “whoever believes in Him.” Acts 16:31-“Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved.” Ephesians 2:8-“For by grace you have been saved through faith.” Ephesians 1:13-In Him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in Him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit” Clearly, none of these verses include,”…and you must be baptized with water.”
Jgard asked if we have to repent to be saved. My response once again was deleted. Here’s my response: Repentance is not a work we do to earn salvation. We acknowledge we are sinners, discover Jesus is the solution to our problem, decide to follow Jesus. Repentance simply means changing your mind regarding sin and Jesus Christ. It’s impossible to place your faith in Jesus as Savior without first changing your mind about your sin and about who Jesus is and what He has done. No one can repent and come to God unless God draws that person to Himself. Repentance is something God gives.,it is only possible because of His grace.
By properly allowing clearer passages of Scripture guide our understanding of less explicit verses we get the intent of the author behind the Bible, who is God Almighty.
Conclusion: Scripture teaches salvation is the work of God, and humanity is saved by grace through faith in Christ alone.
