Catastrophic failure avoided! The engine on my VW Golf 2.0 tfsi GTi was getting noisy and on vcds was showing the tolerance at -5 when the maximum is meant to be -4. When we removed the cam chain it was clear why it was noisy, the plastic tensioner guide has broken and the chain was rubbing directly on the piston. Metal on metal is never a good reason for noise, the chain was starting to wear from rubbing on the metal piston but wasn’t yet broken
