  1. In 2009 I was 38 and had been hearing this song since I was 5. It came out in 1976, when I was crawling around on the floor of my mother's AMC Gremlin (green, of course) and this song was playing on some AM radio station. I owned it on a vinyl 45 by the time I was 8 or 9, my parents had it on an 8 track, I owned it on cassette tape in my early teens, and then on a CD by the time I started college. This is probably one of the first songs I ever pirated on Napster.
At 38, sitting in that audience, I likely would have been stunned that they were able to carry off the performance this well for at least half the song before I would have been jamming to it. Good for them!

  5. Their album "Point of know return" is the album love the most. I know there are people who wold say no but it is for me. Dust in the wind, great song, but I would recommend "Hoplessly human", Closet chronicles", "Point of know return", "The lightning´s hand" and some others from this album.

  6. Most people don't know that this was the closing theme of the 1977 movie "Heroes" and the lyrics hit so much harder when heard in that context. The movie was thoroughly underrated and well worth watching if you have a chance; one of Sally Field's greatest performances, IMO.

  7. Kansas hit it big with this song. I wore out the Best of Kansas 8-track, playing it every day whether in the car or at home in my bedroom as a teen. This is definitely a great version, as good as the studio recording.

  8. A wonderful performance and great reaction. Thank you Beth! Now that you have heard the original you should listen (& react) to VoicePlay's acapella cover of this song. I know you will love it.

  9. Actually, Kerry Livgren wrote this song, as well as at least half their music. Billy Greer wasn't in the original line-up. The original group was: Steve Walsh – Lead vocals & keyboards (left and came back), Kerry Livgren, guitars and keyboards (left to do Christian music, Robby Steinhart – Violin (left and came back), Phil Ehart – drums, Rich Williams – guitar (the one with the eye patch), and Dave Hope – Bass (left to become a minister). They've had a couple of different line-ups since, but I prefer the original (from the beginning through their Audio-Visions album).
Steve recently retired because his voice was going. Robby died a couple of years ago. Dave is still a minister. Kerry was playing lead guitar on this video (I was surprised to see him with the band again). Rich was still there as was Phil. The others came in around the time of the Power album.
I got to see them in 1980. Absolutely AWESOME. I love their Two For The Show live album. It was about as close as you could get to studio on a live album. You can hear who is playing which instrument. It's great.

  10. Steve Walsh- lead singer. Certainly one of the greatest of all time, but really not recognized that way. The violinist is one of the guys singing harmony, just outstanding. Steve Walsh is in his 60's here. Lost a little range, but still very good.
