US Marines in Vietnam: Episode 6: Dustoff



Operation Union was a search and destroy mission in the Que Son Valley. Ordered to leave its base Foxtrot Company sweep toward Binh Son, the nearest enemy-held village complex The Marine company was soon pinned down in a tree line near Binh Son, thereby fixing the NVA forces who were soon subjected to a withering air and artillery bombardment. This allowed Foxtrot Company to attack into Binh Son.

  2. Marines had Med Evacs not dust-offs. The UH-34s were the main go to Med Evacs of 66-67-68. The shifts in 1967 was an 12 hour tour. Crews changed at mornings and again at evening. Hueys were not used in the beginning. Most of this flix is ARMY not Marine Corps. "C" Med was the main Marine/Navy hospital unit in Da Nang. I flew Med Evac ( voluntary) my 13 months in country. Made time go by quicker. <grin> HMM-361

  3. Marines are back to experimental units, according to the latest Defense News. Added late: Why there should never be a border in the north that the Marines would be allowed to attack Hanoi with legality.
