The United States’ plans for the future are to replace second-generation aircraft carriers, such as the Nimitz class, with new and more powerful third-generation aircraft carriers. The Gerald R. Ford aircraft carrier, which was launched on May 31, 2017, has already been commissioned. The next in this class, the John F. Kennedy aircraft carrier, is due to enter service in 2024. It is also worth noting that this class’s last, tenth aircraft carrier is scheduled to be commissioned in 2058. These long-term plans demonstrate the United States’ determination to maintain its leadership in the aircraft carrier field and increase its ability to dominate the world stage.
