While last night wasn’t exactly a classic…I do have to take a moment here to talk about what the Raiders did to the Chargers last night because we did witness history and plenty of fireworks. I mean…this was a team that had just gotten shut out – that had only scored 20 or more points TWICE this season – and Vegas dropped 42 points in the FIRST HALF alone on their way to a 63-21 win.
Aidan O’Connell became the first QB to throw 4 touchdowns in a half this season….8 different players found the endzone…there were back-to-back defensive touchdowns. This was a beatdown of epic proportions.
We’ll get into Vegas’ record-setting night a bit more here in a moment with Raiders legend Marcel Reece here in a moment…but I have to talk about the Chargers here for a second.
I mean, I know Justin Herbert and Keenan Allen didn’t play, but my god. I don’t want to discredit what the Raiders did at all because Antonio Pierce had his guys FLYING around…but the Chargers fumbled 6 times, had a pick six, and just looked completely lifeless defensively. I feel for Brandon Staley having to answer all of the questions about his job right now…but it does seem like his team was completely unprepared to play a football game last night…and it’s hard to believe there won’t be some changes coming after last night.
The one silver lining if you want to look to the future as a Chargers fan is that the loss moved them from the 10th overall pick all the way up into the top 5 – this would already be the most sought after job if LA moves on from Staley, and that just makes it even more enticing. Just a little bit of hope after a night that felt like rock bottom.
