“A male groundhog has for years been nabbing vegetables from a man’s personal garden and munching them while staring deep into his surveillance cameras.

Videos of the groundhog, known as Chunk, have repeatedly gone viral, and show the critter nonchalantly chomping on Delaware resident Jeff Permar’s tomatoes, broccoli, corn, and other produce.

Cheeks flapping and jaw crunching at blinding speed, Chunk tends to gaze into Permar’s surveillance cameras while eating, as though “looking into your soul,” Permar, an IT professional, told Insider.”

  1. Adorable. My husband and I feed all the wild life that lives in our yard, but we do chase the visitors who may hurt our dogs (one is a pug) We had an unwanted visitor (opossum) who raided our compost for awhile but a neighbor humanly caught and re-homed him to state game land area with water and fields nearby.

  2. Why assume the groundhog understands our feelings about "Property"? What it does have share with us are the ideas of teratory and food resources. They don't understand how a camera works. Even if it does look a bit like an eye. However it will consider this taking something from YOUR teratory, So if you run out of the house souting at it, It WILL get the pont immediately. However it will still be back.

  3. Either all of his veggies are planted right in front of the camera, or that's where he's placing them to get cute critter videos. My guess is the latter. I have a groundhog on my property. I make a habit of throwing some of the funky produce (split tomatoes, crooked cukes, etc.) toward the woods where he lives. It keeps us both happy.

  4. Yes, it's fun to watch this little guy but if the critter was actually pulling up those veggies and choosing to eat in front of the camera, there would be dirt on them. Carrots come out of the ground dirty. That is grocery store produce being left in front of the camera to catch the video. There's not even a good reason to lie about it because the video would still be fun to watch with the true story. The fabricated story about the ground hog doing this on purpose isn't believable. Just say "we put produce in front of a camera and look what happened."
