Following up on our analysis of how developers are faring on PC with the transition to Unreal Engine 5, we decided to do the same thing all over again – but this time on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. How are image quality and performance faring on the current-gen consoles? What are the highlights of the UE5 titles released to date – and does Xbox Series S have the horsepower to keep up?

UE5 still needs more time to cook. Reminds me of UE3 when it launched, visuals and performance were inconsistent from title to title but engine updates made a significant difference over time.
We all know (apart from the fanboys) that series s was a joke from day one
Unreal Engine + the focus on graphics is the biggest plague of this consoles' generation. PC Gaming is suffering too because of this which makes it less accessible than ever before.
Push the graphics, says Digital Foundry, then complain when DLSS/FSR, heck even Frame Generation, is a necessity for playable framerates.
It seems the feature that has the worst performance impact is Lumen. But what about Nanite? And virtual shadow maps? It would be nice to see which feature is the main cause of bad UE5 performance.
I am halfway through Jusant, PC gamepass with a i7/1070ti. The game looks great at 1080p everything turned up with FSR. It's a interesting relax game to play.
I have no idea if this is something that possible, but i think it would be cool if there was some way that hardware RT could be use to supplement software lumen instead of replace it. I think this would be a huge win for AMD, and lower end Nvidia cards. The lower end or older Nvidia cards are in a tough spot because their raster performance is a bit weak, and they don't have enough RT cores to make running hardware RT practical. For AMD, their cards excel in raster, but don't have much dedicated RT hardware. Depending on the card and the games if the RT workload could be variable distributed between software and hardware, there are probably situations where you could increase performance and quality.
Why are you ignoring texture streaming problem on Robocop PS5?? Its everywhere, everytime when you turn around or switch between cutscenes textures popup in low res.. and very aggressive culling in cutscenes where for split of a second are missing huge parts of body for example of robocop and other protagonist .. its in bad technical shape and you are calling this the best UE5 game for consoles … really??!!
where is ark survival ascended?
The thing is… if a game is great then none of this really matters and… if a game is shit then non of this really matters 🤓
I really wish Robocop had HDR support.
What about The Talos principle 2? It can run on Rx560 with 4Gb with TSR with 35 fps with high texters and middle quality) it's less powerful GPU than in PS4 pro)
another video attempting to obfuscate that series x runs all these much better lol. doesnt even discuss that.
bruh my 4090 struggles with that trash too, I hate dlss and any sort of up scaling technique, playing 1440p on these games is kinda weird on 65" TV, UE5 is a garbage lol
Playing Robocop in performance mode on Series X and it is really really bad and inconsistent, some mission was like 35 fps the whole time 😂
What about last generation consoles and Switch?
This engine is suppose to support those hardware.
Can we see better games on last generation consoles if they develop games on U.E.5 and DX12 from the ground up?
Re engine seems miles better
no one and i mean no one would choose visuals over performance. what good are the visuals if ur game runs like a slide show? wow that powerpoint presentation ur showing me of a game, "looks good"!!!!!
Microsoft should never have made the Series S.
Its existence is what causes a lot of games to be scaled down to be able to play on this very underpowered hardware and causes a huge bottleneck for developers this generation.
Thats one of the biggest reason we still haven't seen a lot of games actually push current gen hardware.
People need to realize that UE5 is brand new. It’s going to be years before it starts really showing what it can do. It won’t happen during this generation. Not to mention that on top of the engine being new, these consoles are only 3 years old. Games don’t start looking their best until at least year 5. UE5 is a noticeable improvement over UE4. That’s just a fact. If it’s not as good looking as you hoped, that’s on you for having unrealistic (no pun intended) expectations. Besides, nothing that is shown in gaming ever ends up looking exactly like what was promised. They always over promise. UE5 games will only get better, but it’s not going to happen right away.
Can't wait for a full console generation of 480p games upscaled to 4k
image quality and FPS > lumen, nanite
Great engine when ps6 releases.
Test
I think they only need to update the games to FSR3, that way it would solve all of the stutter issues and or frame drops, enhancing the games to FSR3 is the best option for all UE5 games.
so… what about optimizations on PC? Its sooo terrrible, so thats the point
Why is this engine so bad at multithreaded computation ?
We NEED a PS5/Xbox PRO model… HQ 4K60 with high fidelity is THE big next step that would really sell the console vs. PC a lot better…
That Jusant pronunciation could make Peach squirt more than Yoshis tongue or Marios moustache 😋
Haven’t really been impressed so far honestly. They always put out those great tech demos and then the games themselves look nothing like that. Dreams vs reality.
Ue5 was made for the next generation of games…..
On pc.
can ps4/xone play UE5 games?
I had no idea Talos Principle 2 used UE5. I’m buying it! Loved the first one.
