Unprecedented snowfall in Sikkim leaves tourists stranded; BRO comes to the rescue

As a part of its continuous effort, the Border Roads Organisation came to the rescue of 175 tourists including several women and children from various locations in Sikkim on March 17. The tourists who were visiting attractions like Nathu La Pass, Harbhajan Baba Mandir, Zuluk, Gurudongmar Lake and Valley of Flowers got stuck as the roads were covered with snow and sleet, making the movement of vehicles hazardous.

The BRO also provided the tourists with a place to stay for the night and meals for all. Medical attention by medical was also provided to those in need.

Sikkim received unprecedented heavy rains, snow and hail storms between March 15 and 17. So far, the Army has rescued more than 1,000 tourists.
