  1. Ah, those were the days. Let's just do it ourselves after learning from the Artemis missions, we can make it and take humanity into the next realm of possibilities. Let's show that democratic republics with guaranteed rights, free and fair elections, respect for the rule of law, a balance of powers with checks and balances, and term limits for leaders, can accomplish this. Autocratic regimes such as the power in Russia need to be contained and shunned until they end their bloody war against a free and independent Ukraine, and forced to confront their inner demons in power. Russia has crossed the Rubicon, it's no longer to be trusted until it ends the war, undergoes major reforms, the war criminals face trial in the Hague, goes through a truth and reconciliation process, pays Ukraine for damages and reconstruction, and reestablishes a free and fair press. Carl Sagan was right at that time about a joint US-Soviet mission, but today's Russian government resembles more the Nazi Germany we were fighting in the 1940's than the Soviet Union of the 1970's. Pardon my rant, but as John F Kennedy noted, we Americans would rather choose our destiny, rather than have our destiny choose for us. I'm sure the Ukrainians feel the same way right now, and are fighting for their freedom and nation to determine their own destiny as well, against an autocratic foe.
