All the water in Lake Erie gets replaced every 3 years.
Lake Erie Sunrises and Sunsets, and water quality are beautiful! Comparable to many other beautiful water scenes around the world.
I live by lake Erie most of my life. They didn't tell you back in the seventies that Detroit was pumping raw sewage out in the lake. They didn't tell you that was so much scum in the water that they didn't want you to swim in it.
I live near Lake Erie. Fishing would be better if they limited the darn commercial fishing. You have to take a boat out near the shipping lanes to get decent fish these days. Overfishing the lake has been a serious problem for decades. The Blue Pike is thought to be extinct in the lake as well. Too many sheepsheads and Gobies (Egyptian mouthbreeders to aquarists). And tons of Zebra Muscles. But it's beautiful! And those lost ships and planes are in what we call The Lake Erie Triangle.
The music being played , drowned out the narrator voice. At times.
Background music should take over, but Assist in presentation
I watch it on a tablet fire. The music was, at times, much louder than the voice. I do have a ringing in my ears. I suppose that effects sound.
You forgot to mention Buffalo NY and Erie PA to great cities on Lake Erie !!
Great video NOT can't hear you.
Seen many a bad storm growing up down there, most notable was the one that wiped out hastings dr, in long point waves as high as the cottages the storm trashed! Being out in boats as a teen storms would whip up the lake into a frenzy in min
I spent countless hours fishing in Gravelly Bay, the canal and the Wier in Port Colborne. It was my happy place as a kid.
One more fun fact…I peed in it!
Around the time of the War of 1812, Lake Erie had more than 50% of the shipping in the world.
The Great Lakes are thought to be a stupendous crack resulting from a mantle plume; the cracking was then "healed" by the formation of the Appalachian Mountains when the super continent Pangea was created. Samples of basalt have been recovered from the bottom of Lake Superior……
Lake Erie, like all similar features, is a temporary feature. It will inevitably end up as another salt bed, lying on top of many other salt beds…..It is, in fact, the meltwater remnants of the last Ice Age, recycled in the local watershed. At this time, the eastern end of lake erie is turning into a wetland, and then meadowland.
I like the no drink orders as the water in Toledo requires heavy treatment and is thus hugely expensive … all from corporate farm and suburban run-off causing deadly toxic algae outbreaks… but at least the corporate farms and Truegrean get theirs… no?
This isn't my favorite thing about lake erie, but as a kid I almost drown while fishing. Saved myself by staying calm..
You need to get closer to the Mike so as someone might hear ya. Da
Could well be the most dangerous. Anyone who has fished it in a boat can tell you a storm can kick up out of almost nowhere. It can be dead calm 10:30 and the clock hits 11 a:m and it can kick up steep waves over 4’ high instantly! Shallow waters can mean big waves. I luckily survived one of those days.
Nobody calls it the land There are not endless miles of beaches there are hardly any
It has more wrecks than the Bermuda Triangle because the aliens took the ships out of the Bermuda Triangle 😂
I have a house on Lake Erie (Canadian side near Buffalo) and I love learning some new facts. Not in this particular video but I heard that the water in Lake Erie refreshes every 2.6 years. I’ve seen the lake calm like a pond and I’ve seen it angry like the Bearing Sea. We have Bald Eagles and Trumpet Swans fly by regularly (the Swans by season). During winter I’ve seen it 100% covered in ice and the shoreline ice build up looks like ski moguls from our deck but they’re 8’ tall caverns when you walk up to them. It’s an amazing body of water.
Love Lake Erie
Isn’t Lake Erie shallow between wave crest is bottom?
Relatively shallow water results in rogue waves from every direction during storms. Nearly swollowed my 25 foot sailboat.😳
Wish Presque Isle was mentioned in the video, but good information otherwise!
Under lake Erie is a giant salt mine.
Had to stop. Music too loud.
it's a long story but I was on a nice fishing boat loaded with band gear that broke down after leaving Pelee Island heading for Sandusky…the lake was very rough after a nasty storm the night before…about half way…we ended up being towed….long day…good times…
Some 40+ years ago, I attended St. Bonaventure. A few of my classmates went to Dunkirk to get some furniture for their dorm room from one of the guy's grandmother's house. I tagged along and on the way back, we stopped to look at Lake Erie. I'm from Buffalo and two of the others were from Syracuse and had spent time in Western New York along the lake. The fourth guy was from Westchester County and had spent time on the oceanfront in New Jersey. He was flabbergasted at Erie. From where we were, you couldn't see Canada; he was amazed there was that much water inland.
It's polluted as in dangerously……
#11… The tasty mercury flavored walleye.
11). The weather.
To have that many ship wrecks, the weather Must Be horrific.
Walleye!!
I hear that Lake Erie is cleaner now that the steel industry has waned. A little good in the bad. I grew up about 30 miles outside Cleveland. There was always a stench in the air, from the mills, when the family car got near the city. Dad's clothes would smell after he got home from his job as a foreman in a Cleveland steel mill. I notice that the air is better, now also, when I visit Cleveland.
The Welland Canal also killed Buffalo.
F that electric "guitar" garbage. Very distracting.
I really like the fact that it was resurrected from the dead when I went there in the early 60s perhaps 65 maybe 64 the whole lake was dead it was polluted it was dead the whole shore had nothing but dead an amazing turnaround happen thanks to the US corps of army engineers
I went to Lake Erie the waves are strong but small
Smallest of the great lakes by volume.
Now I know I'm in the rong part of Michigan I'd like to move to the lake Erie area asap cause I'm totally fed up with where I am period
We redid this video and fixed the sound issues please let us know what you think. https://youtu.be/yxwQ9SKBh1c
Looks great, but there is always one missing with lakes. There is no scent of ocean😐
