Tygers of Pan Tang – Robb Weir Interview with Phil Aston
Robb talks about the Fantastic new album from the Tygers of Pan Tang ‘Bloodlines’ as well as the early years, going through the classic albums, the difficult 90s and the rebirth of the band following an epic appearance at Wacken in 1999. Since then the band have gone from strenght to strenght constantly pushing themselves. The previous album ‘Ritual’ was a high water mark and I did wonder how they were going to top that, but I can safely say they have.

  1. I was lucky enough to see Whitley Bay’s finest live, albeit just once (on The Cage tour). In the early ’80s, a bass player friend of mine was on a train from London, heading back north, when Robb Weir and Jon Deverill got on and sat beside him. Of course he recognised them and they had a good chat. He said they were really great people – even gave him a Tygers t-shirt and an album 🙂 Thanks to Robb for sharing his story with us and for your great work Phil 👍

  2. Well – I started watching this with a view to finishing it off tomorrow and I ended up watching it all the way through. What a top fella Rob comes over as. Saw them quite a few times with both Jess and then Jon as vocalists and have their stuff up to and including Burning in the Shade – but I hold my hands up – the reformation of the band passed me by, something I'll have to rectify. Think I still have a couple of tour shirts in the loft 😀

  3. You have to respect Robb for calling time on the Tygers, when the suits insisted on them recording other people’s songs. It’s that classic dilemma of artistic integrity versus the music business. It worked for Heart (although they had the same concerns) but even if The Cage had broken them in the States, I don’t think Robb would have acted any differently …

  4. It was very interesting and entertaining to hear the history of this rock band from the late 70's til today, two likeable musicians at eye level and Phil knows how to do a good interview 🙂 I'm glad to own The MCA Years. 5 CD Box Set, 2017 Caroline (Universal Music) and it is similar in construction to the amazing Cherry Red box sets, the box must have been in great demand as these days it is very rare and expensive! I listened to their first two albums today and can only say, yes, they are among the greats of 80s rock 🎸 now I'm excited about the new album, I'm sure you'll introduce it to us when it's out 🎸 😊
