10:18 I will repeat the prediction from Dr. Michael Burry. He is saying that peoples' savings are drying up. And they're either not rejoining the workforce or getting laid off again. Furthermore, Amazon and other mega chain stores will be left with excessive amounts of non-critical inventory. Which likely means If it ain't groceries, it's not going to sell. Perhaps xmas turkeys will still be consumed, but that's pure speculation on my part. But this all could mean that the blue line for 2022–except for the reefer–Rates-Per-Mile could drop further down to $1/mile.
Add the Step Deck Trailer
Picture every possibility pros an cons PRIOR to the purchase proper procedure and protocol. Preach 🔥💙💛
The unemployment rate has been creeping up from 3.5% in January all the way up to the current 3.7%. This is despite the egregious metric where underemployment and long-term unemployment (ie longer than six months) are not counted toward the measurement. All of which means that the unemployment rate is much higher than the official percentage.
Flatbed freight on the west side sucks

In order to be successful, one has to work in the good areas for flatbed. I work the southeast. My company is doing ok
I think the worst problem in the industry are the brokers, shippers are paying kinda the same price per mile but brokers move the rates and keep pretty big part of the money and they don't have expensive if you compare with us, if we push brokers to pay more they'll increase the rates but because truck drivers need to pay bills they have to accept many times a low rate per mile.
In my opinion best way to be successful in this industry is have your broker and truck company at the same time otherwise brokers always will command this industry as they wish like gods.
Well i didn't here about securement and protection equipment for that open freight. Tarps tear, binders.chains…Plus you have to train drivers on load securement and load tarping. 🙄
Excellent content!!
I’m still working on my Niche
Thank you for the great video as usual, do you need an LLC and an authority to become an independent dispatcher?
I loved the detailed explanation. I could not imagine any justification to buy a reefer trailer at over 100k in this market. Everything that you mentioned is right on point. Another factor affecting dry vans goods is also the fact that people are spending more money on experiences, traveling, and services after buying crap for nearly 2 years due to COVID 19 lockdowns and travel restrictions.
I think it would be interesting to integrate the number of months each trailer type is back logged (e.g. from trailer order to delivery), into your chart. Back-orders/-logs seem to artificially keep the new trailer market price(s) higher than they otherwise would be. I assume terms when ordering new trailers require a non-refundable deposit?
Let’s go flatbed! Step-deck or conventional 53’?
Loading/unloading for dry van and reefer in the northeast takes forever and the appointment times are ridiculous
Playing the spot market with any trailer is a role of the dice, Unless you have dedicated customers or pick up the load or unloaded before. Know what to expect. Try to use my crystal ball as much as possible. Deadhead and detention is a big factor for me !!!! Great video, but it is so hard to explain all the factors. Have wonderful week.
One thing to keep in mind when comparing flatbed vs dry van or reefer is MPG. Your typical flatbed gets noticeably worse mpg due to aerodynamics vs your typical box.
Next couple years nothing going to perform good
This is a great video.
Flatbed has some solid lanes that you can make money consistently. Air ride is a must.
In a whole year I have only booked a couple of loads with construction although I do see a good amount of lumber loads on the board. Wet = reject, so I try to stay away from those.
Thanks for sharing all your market knowledge. If you have any flatbed questions I'd be happy to answer.
You are so pretty – I can’t stop watching you 😊! Are you from Lithuania originally by any chance?
Useful analysis. Thanks.
This was beautiful! Thank you for the break down.
I was thinking about flatbeds as well. Been finding a lot of reefers online as well.
Seems to be doing well even in this hectic market. We got box trucks at the moment and finally got our third delivery service agreement signed today so we got more options. The shortage in that space is insane so it’s been difficult to rent out more trucks there to expand the fleet.
Took several months but someone at XPO / RXO expedited the process! We also still have Ryder Last Mile still wanting us to work with them as well. JB Hunt has been very good to us and there’s been lots of work coming from them especially on the travel team side.
Keep up the great content!! 🍿can watch and learn all day
Flatbed also has the price of chains ,straps, tarps, binders, corner protectors and anymore equipment needed
Bought a 48 a few months ago staying in the Midwest pulling in about 6-7 a week
Using 6 foot tarps didn’t want to foot for the 8 but every load is not a tarp load. Learning as we go too. But we just jumped in you get so many calls when you post your truck in the Midwest it’s in demand just gotta know how to work it
Regardless I'm so happy to be making over $19,000 from my $6,000 Investment every 13 days
Great info. Have you considered using cargo sprinter vans or not worth it?
Well explained!
In your calculations are you including fuel surcharges?
Wow I don't know where should I pay attention for your beauty or for the presentation )
Thanks for the content, feels like the carriers that have survived this recession, cling on to voice over it all.
Great content as usual, I like these data deep dives. Where can I find historical data on not only rates but types of freight and and tonnage? I intend to use the data in my business plan.
Thank you Miranda for this video of different type Of trailer comparison. I myself am looking to purchase either a step deck or a flatbed trailer. Perhaps you should do a video comparing advantages disadvantages of a flatbed versus step deck trailer.
Excellent information, but don’t just rely on housing, is the general economy.
Housing slows down means slow economy, means slow down dry vans as well
No. I don’t think comparing our present situation with regular years. We are heading into a recession or already in one. Can you do the same charts using years before during and after a recession. That would tell me what’s more likely to happen next. But great video.
great historical and current data for trucking. thank you for putting in the time.
I wonder how power only drivers are doing without the trailer.
Thanks Miranda for all you do for the trucking industry. ❤
Bit of advice for anyone wishing to seitch to opendeck…apply to a flatbed mega carrier take a week off to to go to their orientation….they will train you on securement during that week. Quit before they “hire you” now you have the skills yu need. Worked for me. Ive been pulling stepdeck and oversized loads confidently in my own truck and company.
thanks for the information. flatbeds will be amazing the next 12 months if willing to go to florida with all the homes being rebuilt due to the hurricane.
Great info 👍
Flexibility. I pull flatbed as company driver paid by percentage of load. Steel. Busy.
But, isn't a reefer is a dry van with 1 ton less calacity?
love ''the board''
How much investment will go into tarps chains and straps?🤔and what is a good set of tarps to start of with?
