Trolley problem – Would you sacrifice one person to save five people

One life and five lives, which is more important, this is one of the ten most famous thought experiments in history, the Trolley Problem. Let’s assume an out-of-control train on the tracks, with five innocent people tied up on one track. Next to you, there’s a lever. You only need to pull the lever to switch the train and save those five people. However, on the other track, there’s also one innocent person tied up. It’s an emergency situation, to save five people or save one person. In practice, considering utilitarianism, sacrificing one life to save five lives is the best choice. From an ethical standpoint, regardless of what happens, you cannot sacrifice this person to save the other, especially if the person who has to die is someone you know. In this situation, no matter how you look at it, you have to both save and kill someone. Essentially, the Trolley Problem is a fundamental question that helps us understand the moral difference between taking a life and letting others die.
