'You let her try and handle even a minorly funky bass and you immediately know not to try her potato salad' is quite possibly the best burn I've ever heard.
24:12
That caught me off guard I had to do a retake on it just to make sure I was watching the right video.
Who the fuck are "the chicks?"
This trainwreckords video was absolutely fantastic, and it’s so fascinating how Faith Hill went from one of the biggest country darlings in the world, to falling so hard. Faith metaphorically died on her own Hill. Saddening.
Tiny nit pick: The only thing I didn’t agree with was the “70’s music outdated take” and the “adult contemporary genre not being relevant in 2002” take, as I know one of those mentioned adult contemporary artists, Nelly Furtado I believe won a Grammy for Im like a bird that year? (Definitely must be my fan bias kicking in, or maybe I misunderstood the point)
I’m realizing how many hits I’ve heard that came from Faith Hill, she’s actually so good wtf
This is an odd choice but I bet I will love it. I love this series and was always sad it never got the same views as Todd's other series.
If todd ever needs ideas, how about relapse by Eminem ? 2000s Nostalgia is bigger then ever now.
When you first started talking about 2001 I had my guard up that you’d be doing some kind of misdirect. But it went on so long I was convinced you were just being straight forward. I stood up and clapped when I heard Michael Bay
Faith Hill another artist that couldn't adapt to the post-9/11 world. Might as well make a list at this point.
Faith hill was like countrys Mariah carey
It's funny how those glossy country-pop songs sound oh, so very cheesy and dated, and then you hear the 'real' country at 6:44 and think, "Yeah, maybe bubblegum trash country isn't so bad."
If Faith Hill "hits you in your soul" I feel sorry for you.
Why does crys music video look like an old heavy metal music video
I'm sorry, I had to stop watching for a quick second to leave this comment: Todd, "we thought history was over" is a FANTASTIC sentence.
Wild to be part of the pre-re-upload squad
DOUBLE NEBULA SHALL NOT BE SILENCED
When I saw the thumbnail I thought "Oh right, Faith Hill! She was a huge for a while when I was a teenager!" and I realized that for the last two decades I had forgot she even existed. Like you don't even hear any of her song being played at the grocery store.
hot chics sell music, but there has to be some music people like . Faith Hill is just boring. being hot sells some records but doesn't make people interesting
I was working as an usher in a movie theater in the summer of 2002, and the soundtrack to Lilo and Stitch was looping on the sound system a solid 50% of the time, so hearing Todd say Faith Hill had a song on it, and then playing a song I'd never heard in my life, made me wonder if I'd slipped into an alternate universe.
Which would explain a thing or two…
Sure, it was half as good as Breathe and sold half as much, but Faith has a great voice, and Cry is in no way bad.
Anyone else get flashbacks to Madonna’s God awful American Life rap when Faith did spoken verse? 🫨😰
Do “Chinese Democracy“!!!
The song "Cry" is a cover song, originally written and performed by Angie Aparo. I assure you, he pulls off every bit of emotion that was missing from Faith's interpretation. Give that version a listen and then ponder why Faith couldn't do it justice.
I think growing up the 90s, I've learned why I hate country music SO DAMN MUCH.
the writing of this episode is top notch, and the ending is just… chef's kiss!
She also commited the cardinal sin of filming a music video at the blink-182 beach
My local Blockbuster closed up on 9/11 out of "respect for the victims". In retrospect, it was a harbinger of the cultural shift on all accounts that was well underway in the 21st century. Another incredible episode, Todd, Trainwreckords is always worth the wait!
Holy crap IMHO this is the most unsalvageable of the albums Todd reviewed here so far. This album is just a black hole of charm
When I hear Cry, I immediately think I'm watching a random ending scene in Smallville where Clark still can't tell Lana he has superpowers. It just feels like it was made for shit like that.
Wow…Faith totally looks like Britney on the cover of Cry.
I'll be honest, hearing her more "pop" stuff, I like it better than her country stuff. At least in the few areas where they actually sound different
Growing up in Texas and surrounded by Country Music, I loved the 90s country scene because it was fun and it included women. The rise of Bro-Country made me fall out of love with the genre.
I remember when Cry was released and the amount of whining from the male country fans over it. I agree it wasn't a good album and wanted to very much be Celine's "Let's Talk About Love", but the amount of misogynistic hate it got was not warranted.
Interesting. So when country fans hear "Free", that's how I hear country music.
That deadpan "It's, ah, unlistenable." at 5:01 sent me
Only semi related, pearl harbor is the only michael bay movie to win an oscar
This is gonna get buried, but, dude your videos just keep getting better and your voice is so strong. Didn't know one thing about Faith Hill before this. You're a great teacher of musical history, bravo.
I loved this video, but I will love “Breathe” by Faith Hill forever
Ty Todd love you love your show
The faith and Tim documentary (its on youtube) they completely skip this part of her career, instead they say that after the year 2000 she retired to take care of her children LOL. That being said, I love Faith, and I really liked the song Cry. But the rest of the songs just weren't good. There wasn't anything that got stuck in your head. The melodies weren't good. The songs sounded like songs other artists turned down.
New Trainwreckords? YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH YEEEEEAAAAH
Was Nebula really worth it, Fudge Round? Was nebula really worth it?
I’m sorry for you hard-core country fans but this album was amazing I was 18 years old when it came out and I loved it definitely had a country and a rock vibe And she looked absolutely beautiful this is a great album everyone should listen to this album
You know how in in your Fairweather Johnson review you were worried that you've made the episode too boring? Well, this is gonna sound incredibly mean, but I feel like now making the next episode about a Hulk Hogan record wouldn't be such a bad idea(
Than again, when American Dream episode came out, I kinda thought it felt like a retread, but grew to like it later, so idk
Listening to the album breakdown points as the music kicks in just feels jarring. It's like shifting gears in a car with a bad transmission. It's musical whiplash.
Kinda feel like shania was bigger, sexier, and record breaking in a legacy that stands to this day. Moreso than faith hill
My favourite part of looking at pop music is having to analyze the songwriters….who are seldom the 'artists.' Dunno, guess I got spoiled by listening to my 'shitty' metal where the only songwriters are the folk in the band. The talentless hacks.
She tried to be a Diva but didn't have the voice of a Diva.
as a normie white woman i can confirm that it does not, in fact, get me in the mood
