Top Thrill 2 has been closed for modifications to be made. New reports suggest it may be closed a bit longer than we originally believed.

Not gonna lie, I stopped believing everything Screamscape posts…they fell for some false rumors regarding CGA's Psycho Mouse back in 2022. Anyone can send them anything and they seem to fall for the bait…because, it's ad space. And lots of ads too (site is unviewable on phone). We shall see what happens, I've just seen too many different rumors. Hopefully they'll have it ready for mid June. If not, looks like I'll just get to stare at Stop Thrill 2…
I have a feeling the wheels are the main issue causing this entire ride to shut down, but it's more than just wear and tear. Normally, if coaster wheels are wearing down faster than intended the manufacturer will just send out extra wheels as a "sorry" and work on the new wheels while the ride chews through the old ones. Once they find the solution, the ride uses the new wheels and the ride is good to go. Notice though, the rides that have this happen never shut down, which means the wheels on this ride were causing something catastrophically wrong if they need to shut down the coaster. What I honestly believe, is that the entire wheel assembly may have been incredibly stressed on this coaster. This could have caused permanent deformation on the wheels and wheel carriages, leading to the shuffle you feel on the coaster, but more importantly setting the ride out of line with the lsm stators. Two major accidents might have been prevented by shutting down, and I think those two possible accidents are why no one is saying what the real issue is. But from what I can gather, it sounds like both these plausible accidents could have lead to more flying shrapnel than the original incident that even lead to this coaster being built. It is a good thing they caught this, as one little incident where no one gets hurt could damage this ride's reputation irreparably, and damage the park's reputation permanently for allowing multiple accidents on the same coaster, let alone if anyone was to get hurt again.
Coming to Michigan's Adventure in 2025 – New Used Wheels for THUNDERHAWK!
I’ve booked a trip of a lifetime from the UK for mid June to ride this 😢
Hopefully in this time they can sort out the lockers, but overall big shame
Well that’s what you get going with the lowest bid and a company without the track record of large rides.
maybe this ride is just not to be judged before the first two months into the 2025 season. Considering that Zamperla have never done anything like this, the gamble might have been too big to seriously expect a more or less flawless opening. I do find it weird though that they are discovering something this severe after just a couple of days of opening to the public, while they had the ride testing for 1-2 months iirc. How much stress can a few days of public operation have caused that you couldn't have figured out with stress testing beforehand? Anyways, I guess let them do their job, let's hope the ride reopens this year, and just call it a real failure if it is not running reliably from next year on. So far to me the only thing it is not is an epic win. But living in Europe, I wouldn't book my trip in 2024 😀
New rides will do new ride things lol
🥺
Cedar point and kennywood 😅
This is honestly why i feel they should have gone with intamin. The redesign was 100% on zamperla but going with a group that has more years with lsm launch coasters and high intensity ride design… yep..
More familiar with highg launches. Been in business longer. Have velocicoaster running with their LSMs. Was original designer of the track that CP is working with. I just feel they would have done a better job on something like tire design and car design since theyve done it for longer with similar types of rides (including wicked twister swing launches).
When you order an Intamin multilaunch from Wish.
I swear to god. You gotta be kidding I scheduled a trip for june 2-3 it better not be closed
Develop a whole new train
so, like the whole train like, almost, like broke apart, like midair… final destination like style FAIL!
A lot of people are pissed about TT2 closing, and while I was in that camp myself, I've come to appreciate this closure. If there's something wrong with the trains that makes them think they need to close the ride and do maintenance on it, I'd rather they do it now than wait for catastrophe to strike. Yes, it royally sucks that it's closed. Yes, people are disappointed. But think of this: worst case scenario (and purely hypothetical; don't get caught up in this), the modification they're making has to do with either the restraints or the train's attachment points to the trucks. Not a big deal the first two launches, but the snap rolls and the ejector airtime on the original tower could have ejected people from the train (or ejected the train itself) at 200 feet up or more. And falling from 20 stories is nearly universally fatal. So I ask you this: do you want to live, or do you want to ride something that could potentially kill you? CP is without contest making the right decision here.
Said by someone who works in an extremely safety-conscious industry where even a slight misstep can kill 80 people or more
If it doesn’t open again this season then Zamperla should be reimbursing every single person who has paid for hotels and flights this summer. Should’ve known it would be a shit show when CP picked a shit company to refurbish jt
ITS ONLY BEEN OPEN FOR 10 MINS 😭
Will it reopen eventually
What's your prediction for when TT2 will open?
It’s being reported… that the wheel assembly is cracking… which I can believe because I don’t think even though they look amazing the trains were designed from the ground up to be doing 120 mph day in and out
The Large wheels have stress fractures, and most are saying closed till halloweekens
You get what you pay for..Go with the cheapest bid and it generally doesn't work out..At the same time downtime was almost a given..The lightning trains on TT2 are basically prototype's,the 1st ones running. Growing pains are almost guaranteed..People need to chill,if your pissed cuz you booked a trip now roasting the park that's on you, every single new attraction has downtime in its 1st season, nothing is guaranteed
CP should have paid the extra money and let INTAMIN reimagine TOP THRILL DRAGSTER. You get what you PAY FOR!
My brother lives in Port Clinton and hangs at a bar that some of the cedar point staff hang out in. He said some of the staff were told that bogies were showing signs of premature stress. They noticed it during the media openings and the initial few days of operation but were waiting to see if it would settle in or get worse. Apparently, they got worse.
the trains are a lot higher off the track than the original ones which messes up the heartline. people have been saying that the downward twist especially if you are seated on the left side of the train is downright violent because of the heartline being off. if riders are feeling it, I don't think it's crazy to say that the trains could have issues with the stress. I heard on a podcast today that it's the wheel bogies. maybe they need to put smaller road wheels on and get the heartline closer to the track. all that being said, why didn't the issues show up in the testing before the opening? everyone remembers that Maverick's heart line roll was eliminated because it put too much stress on the trains but they caught that in the testing phase. I hope they get this figured out . I am rooting for Zamperla
The first dragster was an unreliable ride at best. Hopefully they figure it out so it can ride again safely
Joe Biden is at fault for this.
This was predictable..
This is what happens when you go to a manufacturer known for mass produced flat rides, jenky coasters, and memes (ie Daddy Pig's Coaster) and ask them to build what the GP should think is the best ride in the park at CP (enthusiasts know SteVe is where it's at but I definately see the GP preferring this). Perhaps this is just karma for how they handled media day and the locker situation.
I'm really bummed. I'm making my first ever visit to CP next week. I was really looking forward to getting on TT2.
UPDATE: I’m aware of the rumors that the ride may open this weekend. All I can tell you is that it WILL NOT open tomorrow 5/17 as crews have already been scheduled elsewhere. Will have another video soon.
