  1. Only tiny bit I personally didn't love was that it went a bit from being a Top Gun movie into being a Mision Impossible/ 007 movie when they steal a plane. But beside that it was great.

  2. As an 1986 Top Gun fan, I went to the cinema with a buddy who's an equally big fan of the first movie. And we were not disappointed. The canyon run had us bounce up and down our seats from sheer exhilaration. The flying scenes in Top Gun; Maverick are some of the best to ever grace the silver screen. And it's almost all real planes! Tom Cruise actually made the actors go through basic pilot training for their roles.

As to why you see no one sitting behind them in the fighter jets, it's because they're in the back seat themselves. The real pilot is sitting in front of them. If you look very closely at some of the scenes, you can see how close the actor sits to the tail of the jet. But only nerds like me notice that, most people won't even realise it. I'm glad you gave the Top Gun movies a chance, they're good old fashioned fun. Something we rarely have anymore.

  3. I took my mom to see this when it came out, she was a big fan of the first but an even bigger fan of this one! Beautifully executed film, story is phenomenal, acting is on point, the music, the sound, the cinematography, the emotion it invokes, honestly such a good movie! I'm bummed they didn't win more awards for this, they definitely should have!

I'd love to see you guys react to Godzilla (2014), Godzilla King of Monsters, Godzilla VS Kong (in that order) great movies!

  4. Forget both versions of the Top Gun movie. Do you remember that F-14 Tomcat that Cruise was "flying" when he buzzed the control tower in the first movie ? I saw it and actually put my hands on that same on the flight deck aboard the USS Lexington aircraft carrier berthed in Corpus Christi, Texas last May.

  5. Bird strikes. I went to the Wings Over South Texas airshow held at NAS Kingsville last spring. I went there because I've been honorably discharged from the US Army since June 1991, the airshow was on a US Navy base, it was free and the Blue Angels were there. One of there F/A-18 Super Hornets had been hit by a bird strike during a survey flight of the area before the practice flights and show performances. I got to meet the pots, except for one, and got their autographs.

  6. We do have air dominance. But the spear point is the Air Force F-22. The Navy does not have the F-22. If they did, they could engage the Su-57 Felons on a peer to peer basis, and win. The F-22 is the best there is. And even Russia barely has any Su-57s in service, much less an export presence. The nation we are beating up in this is Iran. That's the only country we ever sold the F-14 to.

  8. I didn't like the first one, but my friends were going to see this, so I joined in. We all walked out of the theater just blown away at how good the movie was.

Something this movie excelled at was, even with all the chaos, you still knew what was going on.

  9. One of modern cinemas Masterpieces!
Marvel l & that DC needs to die down so that more of this stuff can come and shine through. Incredible achievement (& its profits prove it!)

  10. I think they were very intentional in NOT showing how he ejects in the opening sequence. Leaves the possibility of some specialised survival pod, rather than an exposed human body hitting the jet stream at that speed.

  11. The US never lost air superiority. The movie was delayed due to Covid. There wasn't enough F-35s in active service when they filmed the scenes, and they probably couldn't show as much of the machine as they could with the F-18.
So, they made up the story about not being able to use modern jets for the attack.

  12. The difference with the first one is the mission.

In the first film they’re trying to get through Top Gun and prove they’re the best.

    Big woo.

In this one EVERYONE is the best and it’s a suicide mission, so you spend an entire movie getting to know and like and care about all the characters…and they might well get killed.

That tension is throughout the movie and makes you care even more.

That’s why it works so damn well.

  13. Did you get the Easter egg? When Maverick first meets Penny(Jennifer Connely) in the bar!! Music by David Bowie plays in the background, with whom she filmed Labyrinth when she was 16.And Hangman taps 86 into the jukebox, the year of the first Top Gun movie

  14. Footbal instead of volleyball because volleyball is a 2 man sport, crew against crew for a Top Gun trophy. Football because it teaches teamwork to accomplish a common goal. The movies had 2 different objectives.

  15. I love how they filmed the love scene between Maverick and Penny. From her simply leaving the door open as the invitation to them just talking in bed instead of showing the young lust from the first movie. It shows how much he's grown as a person in the 30 year gap. And I am sure that his relationship with Penny would have had that lustful stage, and even an on/off relationship that they always tried again when their paths crossed. And I love that she calls him Pete.
