Top 15 New-for-2023 Roller Coasters

2023 was a great year for new roller coasters across the world. The year was highlighted by a few Intamin multi-launch coasters (most notably Toutatis and Batman Gotham City Escape) and two RMCs (Wildcat’s Revenge and ArieForce One). This video ranks the new-for-2023 roller coasters I personally experienced.

  1. Got the last ride on AF1 before a big thunderstorm rolled through, climbing up the hill straight towards a massive dark sky was so intimidating, and the white supports looked striking against the dark clouds

  2. This year I got to do 6 coasters in their debuting year, more than I've done in any other year. Here's my rankings:
    1. Pipeline, SeaWorld Orlando- the unique airtime sensation is absolutely incredible on this next-gen standup coaster. I also love the great directional changes on this ride, and the overall presentation with the beach theme fits nicely in this corner of the park. I do agree that the corkscrew was a bit of a letdown, they could have gone with a much better inversion.
    2. TRON Lightcycle Run, Magic Kingdom- I absolutely loved the sensation of riding in a true motorbike position on this coaster. The sensation of speed mixed with the digital theming makes it such a wonderful compliment to Tomorrowland.
    3. Big Bear Mountain, Dollywood- This coaster felt like a blend between Cheetah Hunt and Cosmic Rewind. From its butter-smooth layout where everything feels like one cohesive element to the detailed queue and on-board audio, I had an absolute blast on this ride. Definitely hoping the landscaping will look better in a few years, but thankfully the night rides made the ride feel less bare for me.
    4. Hellbender, Anakeesta- similar to their other alpine coaster Rail Runner, it features a single coaster section followed by a lift hill back to the station. Lots of fun directional changes, especially with 2 sequences of s-bends.
    5. Lost Mine Mountain Coaster- very long alpine coaster that reminded me of Rocky Top Mountain Coaster. Definitely the best theming I've seen on one of these, but most of the coaster sections were short and underwhelming. The second coaster section was probably the best part in terms of speed.
    6. Rolling Thunder, Paradise Pier Fun Park- 3 loop SBF spinner, but it has the hamster wheel cars which were a really fun sensation for the first time. It was also far smoother than the other SBF spinners I have done.

  3. ArieForce One was such a wild card decision to make. I'm very interested to see what the park adds next to it, because I doubt they planned on building a state of the art roller coaster at a park of that size without at least having plans for a complimentary coaster of similar caliber next to it, regardless of the fact that AF1 tripled attendance in its first year running

  4. Great list but tbh it was a weak year outside the top 5.
Even wildcats revenge was low key disappointing. There is this one channel that basically forces his GF on us and her reaction to the coaster was so fake

  5. I actually only rode 2 coasters that were built this year. One is a traveling kiddie coaster on the german fairs and the other one is a Gerstlauer multi launch family coaster, but it is quite unique. It's called Firlefranz, located in Bayern Park, germany. You start with a backwards twisted spike, launch forwards through the layout and thanks to a switchtrack after the station, you go forwards up the spike now, stalling and then you go through the layout again, but backwards. Glass smooth and pleasent medium forces. No airtime, but that is a good thing for german family coasters.
Still, I would love to have some airtime in the bavarian state of germany that isnt from a drop tower.
