This is a thought experiment. It uses a hypothetical and oftentimes somewhat ridiculous situation to help get us to the core of a deeper philosophical or scientific question. This one being: Is there anything about you that’s irreplaceable? If some kind of computerized robot-clone were to replace your body, mind and memories, would that new you be enough to fool your parents, siblings, best friend or partner? Or would there be a vital, unseen, internal piece of you missing? Something that can’t be quantified physically.

  1. Amazing and even crazier to me personally that i knew everything he mentioned in the video and studied it before to some extent. Im proud of myself for representing this. Love everybody and your souls

  2. for the very first question; now the exact same situation but i don’t do drugs and my first time i overdosed on a laced edible. the next few weeks i was scared i wasn’t actually living and just living in my mind until i realized that i didn’t think my brain was capable of creating new things i haven’t seen before. like a new person i just met or a new video from aperture that explains things i’ve never heard of. anyway crazy experience

  3. the trolley problem is really so difficult if both track has a close loved one (example your mother and your lover) so the only way where you would choose to let 5 people die is when only 1 close loved one

  4. Your first example about the clone of me… Opening with, "What if I told you…" And speaking in the second person throughout. Well if I had been replaced, you would be speaking to, even asking the final question not of, "me."
You would be asking the clone. Not only would the clone respond saying, "that isn't possible." He would be correct.

  5. Why do all the examples in this video have binary outcomes? The real world is not binary, it is infinitely variable. And why couldn't the barber (described at 7:20) get shaved by another barber? Was there only the one barber in the system in which he lived? How do we know he ever got shaved? Maybe he was had no hair. Or he had really long hair that was never shaved. I think this is a variant of the Russell's paradox: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russell%27s_paradox : "The whole point of Russell's paradox is that the answer "such a set does not exist" means the definition of the notion of set within a given theory is unsatisfactory. Note the difference between the statements "such a set does not exist" and "it is an empty set". It is like the difference between saying "There is no bucket" and saying "The bucket is empty"."

  6. It seems like people have way too much time on their hands if they come up with nonsense like this. It seems like they just come up with scenarios without really wanting an answer, then laugh at people trying to look intelligent whilst they ponder on it. It's the biggest scam going and it's funny.

  7. A barber shaves everyone in a village who does not shave themself, and does not shave any that shave themself. So either the barber lives in a different village and shaves themself or lives in the same village but goes to another barber to get shaved. alternatively, barbers tend to work in small groups, hence if that barber gets shaved by another barber from the same barber shop, one could say that he gets shaved by someone else within the same barber and he shaves that barbers hair as well. Which is why he has all whom do not shave themselves coming to the barber, since they have much practice from each others hair.
