This video will change how you see Reiner | THE ULTIMATE ATTACK ON TITAN ANALYSIS

We get it, Reiner Braun is complex. But what does that complexity communicate to us? What does it ultimately mean?

In the same vein of Invaderzzโ€™ โ€œThis video will change how you see Eren,โ€ I have set out to change how you see Reiner Braun. I donโ€™t need to tell you of the complexity in Reinerโ€™s writing โ€“ However, I will be telling you the โ€œhowโ€ and the โ€œwhyโ€ of that complexity. With help from psychologists including Carl Jung, James Hollis, Erich Fromm, and then assistance from fairytale and fiction, we break down and analyze Reinerโ€™s multiple personalities, how theyโ€™re cured, and where his path diverts afterwards.

As we wait for Attack on Titan / Shingeki No Kyojin Season 4 part 3, letโ€™s revisit all previous installations of the show and discuss what Hajime Isayamaโ€™s storytelling may mean for our lives, especially men in Western civilization. Iโ€™ve attempted to avoid โ€œrecappingโ€ like a lot of other video essays and analyses do, and instead Iโ€™ve tried to get right into the heavy, โ€œesoteric,โ€ stuff.

All research, writing, voiceover, and editing is my own ORIGINAL work.

  1. First Off the usual quote
โ€œArt for art's sake is an empty phrase. Art for the sake of truth, art for the sake of the good and the beautiful, that is the faith I am searching for.โ€

    โ€• George Sand

Furthermore all the more you don't have the right
kidding how did I miss this by 10 days!

I will write a concise to the point hopefully with little segway feedback laden response after the 33 minutes have elapsed. And maybe digested a little, with a 'dab' of passage of time.

  2. I really liked your comparison of Historia with Reiner; with the proof is in the 'sugar plum fairy' pudding phrase. That's about it for now. (damn, had to edit this just for those pudding style points; I personally like having unedited lines of consciousness.)

The minute you said hollow armor, I immediately thought of comparing it with the hollow "Helios" statue. Bravo for me personally you've added yet another brazenly bronze (heh) facet of meaning behind Reiner's "Armored Titan." This will be a new core indelible memory.

I feel inspired to leave behind my own take adapting parts of your various in-depth analyses, but also incorporating music, such an important emotional aspect oft forgotten, into this, mind with what little music knowledge in my repertoire I've gathered admittedly.

"In death I'm somehow more alive", to quote a certain Reaper's Verse, that's the first thing that popped up in my mind with your inclusion that dead actors and characters do not stay collecting dust after their departure from the stage.

So I posit that multiple characters or even more than that; all of them, dead or alive, combined complement each other vitally, and I back this with support from specifically a line from So ist es immer (from Levi's No Regrets OVA), "we must all gather as one, sing with hope and the fear will be gone."

Take Erwin's shouldering of the many soldiers in his career that he gave orders to. He may have grown obsessed with carrying on their combined will and aspirations, alongside wanting to keep them alive while admitting that he misled them every turn. Think of that mental image of a pile of dead bodies he stood upon when talking to Levi before the distraction charge during Season 3.

This expresses itself with his relation to those soldiers still alive; once to Nile Dock and the rest of the apprehenders at Season 1, he asked the Military Police whether they can take over Erwin's role, that is to say he started listing, first logistics officers by their names, their duties and responsibilities, other such details etc..

From the start I believe Erwin cared about each one so deeply despite it not showing emotionally in an overt manner. Instead most often this was expressed externally in how he developed his special Long Scouting Style early on before he became the Survey Corps commander, before the Bystander Commander Keith Shadis left the reins behind, with his need to mitigate needless deaths in his mind perhaps, by making a more 'unified' strategy. The result was less dead under his command, in short. Even Keith noticed this begrudgingly as various others under his command muttered it with no regard to Shadis' feelings, under their breath. Need I go on?

To close that line of thought I think I was subconsciously inspired because I saw this expressed in one dedicated segment of another video and it was just titled: Emotional Intelligence. Erwin's was a tragic character in this right; his sins crawled up his back with no end in sight, he was relegated to promising weakly to lead those in his command all up to a overarching goal of securing victory for Humanity, and yet Erwin's personal hidden agenda, and goal; finding out what's in the basement, the minute that Eren entered the stage, it was so simple and more personal to him because of it's pertinence to his relationship with his father, he had even hidden this recent facet to a ever-growing obsession from everyone; leading up until to his penultimate point of life where he seized the calm opportunity, before the storm of his death, and fully confided the expression of his entire life goal and aspirations in Levi, passing on the torch, and revealing, to himself as well, the deception he fabricated for himself, what he had to mask for so long.

I was waiting to see if there was more to Jean's and Marco's relationship ever since I saw that in the Jean is not a horse video! Glad to see more deep dive into that. This is it for 12 minutes in.

  3. Fucking amazing video, it's been a great analysis of Reiner and even made me reflect on myself in some ways. Not sure why Youtube isn't recommending it, but I hope that gets remedied soon.

  5. i can speak from personal experience. its extrmely difficult to find who you truly are. especially without a father, and especially in a country where you are called worthless evil devils just for merely existing, nobody asked to be born, nor did they ask to be born as they are. these children were used as tools and weapons, had their humanity stripped away by unloving and uncaring powers. my dad was constantly in and out of my life, mostly out, when i was 6 or 7 i would get do happy and excited i would blackout and have episodes of extreme violence against my friends not even remembering what happened as if it werent even me doing it, instead of therapy they out me on Adderal and riddlin which completely disabled my ability to feel. emotions, hunger, pain, i felt nothing at all. for 5 long years i was mentally incapacitated by a government who doesnt give a fuck about its people. now its been 15 years since ive been off the drugs. and i finally have found who i truly am. and yet still, sometimes that ancient fury and anger comes back out. it haunts me every single waking moment of my life. how my uncle was murdered when i was a baby. all the pain and anger and sadness that my parents felt when they learned what happened and how it happened. peoe dont think babies understand. but they do. they remember every little bit. even if they don't remember it seeds itself into their very psyche ad their brains rapidly develop. its a horrible situation. one that nobody deserves to be out through. the only reason im not a serial killer is because it's illegal and i am terrified of losing my freedom, or rather, what little facade of freedom we have been given… if i could i would hunt down killers. and take out every. single. one. and when there are mo more killers left. it will be time to take care of the last one. me. i know i cannot pass down my genes, for any offspring of mine will grow up just as internally tormented by the duality of man and our constant suffering existence. i cannot contribute further to our already depraved gene pool with a clean conscious.

  6. Thanks for another bespoke take, Red. Before I thought seriously about him, I saw myself liking the character of Reiner despite his (many) flaws. Now, I understand much better how they're part of him, and what kind of growth they inspired! Keep up the good work.

  7. This definitely developed my understanding of Reiner. It helps me reaffirm a point Iโ€™m making in my own video essay right now. By the way, I love this name/thumbnail format, but I got dibs on Armin, got it?

  8. Very interesting video , Better than what I expected . There were some points I genuinely never thought of. And that MARS connection was amazing. I would like deep analysis of Zeke Yeager. He is such an interesting character in my opinion.

  9. No I still see him as, useless person that felt guilt, apologies and a moment later keep doing the same shit that he apologise a moment later, no doubt he is the best plot armour titan of all time.

  10. It wasn't just a negligent father, he was parentified by the emotional instability in his home environment with his mom. It's heavily implied that she heavily implied he needed to fix her problems. He was never actually a child.

That said I don't think he's evil, I think acting like the father figure he didn't have made him feel better & it became habit because our brains like to keep doing what feels good because of how the reward systems are set up.
