This Princess Had A TRAGIC Life Following Her Father's Execution…

One of the most shocking events to occur in English History was when the King of England Charles I made his way out on to the scaffold in Whitehall in London. The axeman took the King’s head in one swift blow, and there was an audible gasp in the crowd as many believed they had executed a man sent by God to rule over them. But following the King’s death there was a huge amount of change in England with Oliver Cromwell being the Lord Protector making the country Puritan and banning lots of activities that the people enjoyed doing. But there was a daughter of Charles I who also lived a very tragic and sad life, and at the age of just 14 she died on the Isle of Wight at Carisbrooke Castle. She is a forgotten princess, but what is the story of her life?

Elizabeth Stuart was born on the 28th December 1635 at St James Palace and five days later she was baptised. Her mother was Henrietta Maria, and her father was King Charles I. Her maternal Grandmother Maria de Medici in 1636 attempted to have Elizabeth married to the son of the Prince of Orange, the future William II of Orange. However Charles I believed that the marriage of his daughter Elizabeth to the Prince of Orange was beneath her status, and with this the King forced him to send Elizabeth’s sister Mary the Princess Royal to marry him instead. But following the outbreak of the English Civil War, it was a very dangerous time for the children of the King.

  1. I'm confused. If the marriage of Elizabeth to the Prince of Orange was beneath her status, how was it not also beneath the status of her older sister, Mary, who was sent to marry him?

  2. Charles I was King of Scotland as well as of England something this narrator has failed to acknowledge. Charles was in fact Scottish born at Dunfermline Palace in Scotland in 1600. Whilst i do enjoy these videos can you not please give tbe correct titles etc. The Stuarts were of the Scottish Royal Family and its through them the British monarchy comes from.

  3. Elizabeth Stuart s mother Queen Henerietta Maria was not executed ad id stated at end of this video. It was her father Charles I King of Scotland and England. Perhaps the Stuarts should have stayed in Scotland as the English crown was nit worth the trouble it only brought them unhappiness and extinction of
    their Dynasty

  4. You should do a video on Olga of Kiev perhaps. A very interesting story, though may prove itself to be a little embellished upon closer inspection, it could still be an interesting topic to explore.

  6. Slight mistake at the end, 8.58, you call her "the forgotten daughter of the executed queen", no it was her father who was executed not her mother (at least that proves I watched it right through to the end, and it is excellent!)
