  1. I'm doubtful of cheap "classics" or "select" type Nintendo games. If you look at third party – cross platform games (like a Sonic game for instance) – they are always so much cheaper on other platforms, and I imagine this is because the discs are cheaper to produce than the cards. I'm not sure Nintendo can reduce the prices of the games too far. Here's hoping though.

  2. At least in Europe, The Switch got a price drop a couple years I think. It was a minimal one: the original Switch's price was dropped by €20, while the OLED model's price was brought down to the original model's original price. So a rather inconsequential price drop. Still, the fact that the Switch didn't see a price hike like in the UK, despite record inflation in the last two years, is still something. And while it feels very weird that the Switch still retails for close to its original price 7 years into its lifetime, the fact is it's still making record sales at such prices, so it really isn't surprising Nintendo won't drop the prices any further.
As for a Switch 2 (or whatever successor name it will have) announcement, I think we'll only get one this year if the sales figures start dropping quickly. Nintendo is probably ready to announce the new hardware at any time, but wants to time it just right to not hit on Switch sales too hard. A holiday release only makes sense if they feel they won't make projected figures for the Switch alone during the next holiday season. There may also be concerns of hardware availability. We're still suffering chip shortages that increase hardware costs, and Nintendo may not be willing to increase the price of the next hardware by too much. They are already at the edge of what the market will take, especially when it comes to peripherals, so they can't afford to increase prices too much.

  3. Legends full-on replacing mainline Pokémon is my nightmare

I loved the game for the most part, but God bless did parts of it really suck. Mainly the terrible turn based combat

If they did a Legends game that uses mainline series battle mechanics THEN we can talk lol

  4. I think if Nintendo was smart they would release Zelda twilight princess and wind waker remastered on switch. We have metroid prime remastered, so they should release Metroid prime 2 and 3 remastered and finally release Metroid prime 4 on both switch and the new switch

  5. I've thought for a long time Nintendo should go the "platform" route like cell phones.

People upgrade their cell phones every ~3 years because because the latest and greatest are better and smoother and have some new features, but with a few exceptions software is not locked to a hardware model–it works on any prior device, within reason.

So most Switch 2 games would work on the Switch 1, but they'd just be much better on Switch 2. If the game you want to play runs like garbage on Switch 1, that just means you need to upgrade–this is something casual users are accustomed to for their phones, computers, TVs, etc., so it wouldn't be difficult to get people to understand the new paradigm for game consoles. It'd also give Nintendo a software ecosystem, which is something Apple and Google have that console manufacturers don't really have, resetting after each console generation.

  6. I’m only ten minutes into the video so maybe they’ll talk about it later in the video (tho I doubt it), but one thing I’d love to see is a new dedicated handheld. I know the Switch is a hybrid console that can function as a large handheld, but I think Nintendo has always excelled at creating dedicated handhelds—specifically ones that easily and comfortably fit in your hands. Game Boy, GBA, DS and 3DS—all super successful and created avenues for unique and engaging games, many of which likely wouldn’t have otherwise come out. It could pair with or compliment the Switch successor in some way, like they’ve done in the past with Game Boy/SNES, GBA/GameCube, etc.

No one online seems to be talking about a new Nintendo dedicated handheld these days, so maybe I’m the outlier here, but I’d buy it day 1 if they ever release another one.

  7. The Switch ‘brand’ is so strong it would insane if they didnt just upgrade the hardware like Zion said. Abanding a brand theyve spent 7 years building would be a really bad merekat-ing decision so dont worry Alex! Trust me 😅

  8. A note on Switch Pricing: In Canada the base Switch launched at $379.99, and is currently $399.99 (to clarify I'm not referring to the OLED model, which is $449.99). So in some parts of the world, the price of the base console has actually gone up.

  9. If you guys remember the Switch launch there was little to no sense to buy it for like the first 9 months. They were only expecting core fans to get it. I feel that's how they will do everything with its successors. Most games for about a year are gonna be cross-gen and then slowly after all the core fans will "switch" and a more casual audience start getting the console, Nintendo will start introducing more and more exclusives.

  10. What ridiculous arguments are you using guys?!!!! They shouldn’t make the system backwards compatible in order to give more incentive to buy the new console?!!! That’s so ridiculous! All devs and chipsets share far more in common today, and this is no more the world of the PS3 era! It won’t make any difference to newcomers but having a library of hundreds of games and having a system that wouldn’t support it?! Of course the system has to be and the console today won’t be limited by that. The better way would be to give us a steam deck killer and I am sure if they offered even 450,- usd price point it would still be ok. I would rather get a really great Nintendo console than getting games that choke to death on the system.

  11. It's funny how they go through the trouble to remaster Skyward Sword but can't simply port Twilight Princess or Wind Waker. Nintendo knows how big those games are and the fan bases for them. The longer they keep waiting, the more people are keen to emulate it on Steam Deck or some other device. And don't get me started on Switch 2 or Switch Pro. I've been beyond annoyed since the rumors started. They'll announce something when they're ready. After all there was a 7-8 year gap between PS4 and PS5. Nintendo won't just drop the success of the Switch after the Wii U. They know what they're doing, and they also don't know what they're doing.

  13. Hot take (maybe?) – but I think VR is absolutely not the direction that they should pursue and they should focus on delivering a switch that can actually play higher level fidelity games that game devs are trying to make. A system that can service the game developers that want in on the Switch's install base would be amazing. Get me a switch that can play Final Fantasy VII Remake for example (but fun discussion fam! )

  14. I hope that the next Nintendo system will sell well because a lot of people bought their Switch in the past 2 or 3 years during the pandemic and so they feel like their console is still new and so they might not feel like upgrading.
