  1. See, Despotic Scepter is not horrible. You target to steal with say, Sower of Temptation and kill your own Sower on trigger for eternal stealing. Mostly Scepter was used to reset your Stasis lock and put out more pieces or a fresh Stasis with full mana open

  2. "Does any one play walls outside a wall deck?" Sometimes I do, if it's more of a control deck or a combo deck, and I can afford the slot in the deck. Steel Wall is one of my favourite go-tos. It's 1 mana 0/4, or my old school burn deck ran Cinder Wall (1 mana 3/3, dies when it blocks, but that 3 attack can make it dangerous to attack into with, especially if you know there's a Shock or something waiting if you do) If I simply need to survive till a win condition or something, some of these walls can soak some pretty heavy hits for their mana cost. It's not for every deck but they can serve a function of simply being cheap and letting you block and keep mana up.

  3. Siren's Call + Festival was the OG board wipe combo. I saw it win the MTG championship back in the day. 2 mana at instant speed, [creatures must attack or they die, followed by "opponent cannot declare an attack"]

  4. [Merfolk Assassin] I absolutely love that card. Just give your opponent's creature Islandwalk, which you can do with [War Barge] an artifact that has (3) Target creature gains island walk … also creature dies if War Barge is destroyed. It becomes 3 mana tap kill anything, 3 Mana TAP KILL IN BLUE!. It's an extremely good card, and there are plenty of otherways to give island walk, or if nothing else, to defend against island walk.

  5. My memory of Savaen Elves was that back in middle school, there was a kid who would pay us cash for copies of that card. He didn't even play Magic, I think he just liked the spider-webbed boobs in the picture

  6. Ovinomancer is fire! If you run it with fervor, you can activate it before returning the lands. Then it's a 3 mana sorcery that destroys a creature that goes back to hand. Add aluren and it's free at instant speed too.

  7. You want to hear convoluted creature removal?

step 1: Find a way to turn creatures blue. Fylamarid or Shifting Sky are my choices for targeted or global blue-ification.
step 2: GRAB AN ENEMY'S STUFF. Specifically a creature. Since we're already going full scuffed tech, Chamber of Manipulation.
step 3: Tap that glorious 1UU and FEED THE ENEMY TO THE HOMARID SPAWING BED!

Why would one do this? So they can have a legion of Camarid tokens, naturally. To do what?

Step 4: Play Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth to turn all your lands (and your table's lands too, i guess) into also-swamps
Step 5: Sacrifice a creature (a Camarid), a swamp and tap the LEGENDARY AND TERRIFYING VISCERID DRONE to destroy target non-artifact creature… AND IT CANNOT REGENERATE! I'm currently looking for a way to make those lands snow-covered for the ultimate removal ability of Viscerid Drone: sacrifice a creature, sacrifice a snow-covered swamp to destroy ANY target creature… THAT ALSO CANNOT REGENERATE! For now my best option seems to be Arcum's Weathervane…

I swear rolling up to a commander table with the single most scuffed deck you personally call "the east coast fisherman" just because you wanted to play all 8 homarids and call it "homarid tribal" and somehow end up being a low-key threat in multiple games by pulling the weirdest old bullshit cards no one expects is hilarious.

EDIT: I also love how so much of this bad removal is in my scuffed deck. lol.

Stormtide Leviathan (only flyers and islandwalkers can attack) + Mystic Decree (all creatures lose flying & islandwalk) makes my Siren's call an instant boardwipe behind a "no one can attack" barrier.

War Barge + Merfolk Assassin are there. Since Stormtide turns all lands into islands and Eluge the Shoreless can turn enemy lands into islands, War Barge isn't all useless.

Dispersing Orb and Chromeshell Crab aren't 100% terrible once you can make tokens or just steal an enemy's creature for the sacrifice or swap cost. They're just like… 80% terrible.

Also: how could you forget Giant Oyster for terrible removal?
