  1. I was pleasantly surprised that Tiffany was reviewing "Doll's House" now that both Sandman adaptations are available. I'm also glad that you touched upon Volumes 3 and 4 which I enjoyed more than Volume 2 but I still appreciated how each of the volumes interconnect and reveal the rich texture of the entire series. Incidentally, I believe that Gilbert was patterned after the author G. K. Chesterton, creator of the Father Brown mysteries….

  2. Fidler's Green is Gaiman's homage G.K. Chesterton and early twentieth century English writer. (If you ever read his best works, particularly The Man who was Thursday, you'll know why Gaiman is so attached to him.)

  3. I so badly want you guys to continue through the volumes of Sandman! I cherish these Vertigo episodes so much, and they mean the world to me. Getting to know the backstory of the writing process, the art, references i wouldn't have gotten and all the in depth info around the book along with a great detailed look at the story itself is a treat. I love how Tiff presents these comics, you can really tell that they mean a lot to her. Let's hope you are able to get to later volumes some day!

  4. Hey guys this was an amazing episode, I’m really glad you guys got to talk about what happens to Wanda in volume 5. I actually met Neal Gaimen a few years ago during a talk he did at suny purchase. I brought him my favorite volume of the sandman, which was volume 5. It was a really cool experience because I got to talk him about how powerful Wanda’s death was and how it effected the fan base. It was a really cathartic experience to meet the person who was responsible for writing what I believe to be one of the saddest deaths in all of comics. I hope one day you guys talk about A Game Of You, because I don’t think any other comic has effected me on a emotional level like that one has.

  5. Tiff is great. Love her passion and enthusiasm.
Sandman is by far, my favorite comic book series of all time and I think is one of the highlights of the medium. I've been reading it for over 20 years and I always find it illuminating, hopeful, captivating and soothing. I know it's a hard ask, but I would LOVE it if you were to do episodes for all of the books, even if Tiff would only go in-depth on her favorite books.
    Keep up the great work!

  6. Kinda weird that you raced through the episodes of the Netflix adaptation of this story to meet an imaginary deadline when it's probably the primary reason you are even covering it at this particular moment.

  7. Hookay… Since Jed was Garrett's dream helper/designated victim in the Jack Kirby Sandman series. Brute and Glob have an attachment to him from that. (Rose & Jed's grandfather who passed away was also a character in that series.)

  8. Fun thing I didn't clock until watching the show, but the Family Man is actually a character from Hellblazer and there's a good reason he's not at that convention

  9. There are a lot of people complaining about the Netflix adaptation and while I'm no stranger to pointing out when adaptations mess up I can't help but point out how these people must not have read the Sandman comics. Gaiman may not have made certain characters black but he obviously was tackling progressive topics and presenting certain lifestyles in a time where it wasn't being shown. Sandman is insanely progressive and it gets annoying when people try to use that against the show. Also, what a slap in the face for Gaiman who obviously has massive control over what happens in the show.

  10. DC publishing a trade of The Doll's House first has to be the origin of every Sandman fan I knew insisting that I "read the second book first and then go back to first book". I didn't listen to them simply because Preludes and Nocturnes has Martian Manhunter in it. However, the ultra fucked up diner issue in Preludes made me wait a couple of years before reading The Doll's House. Just like every Wednesday, another great episode of Back Issues!

  11. It’s good to admit scrubbing and skimming through shows is bad! That’s a terrible way to watch anything since shows and movies do need to be watched start to finish. The secret eleventh episode dropping today with “Calliope” and “Dream of a Thousand Cats” is pretty cool as far as no one knowing about it.
