Luciana took the car keys from the shelf. The small symbol on the key fob was flashing anxiously; the battery was running low; it wasn’t the right time for it. Luciana was already running late for work, but there was nothing she could do. She needed to replace the battery. She tried to remove the lid, but she couldn’t do it.
She needed to find new batteries and a screwdriver to remove the lid. She rushed into the living room, where a box of various useful odds and ends was on the top shelf of the bookcase. However, there were no batteries in the box, even though they were usually kept there. Luciana cursed firmly.

I'm a little confused as to why she couldn't just use the key manually. Are people so used to using the lock/unlock buttons that they no longer know the actual key will open the doors?

While a beautiful story and enjoyed, I found it kind of long though.
In all these stories,the female victims are always getting pregnant. This one story had a different twist…she got an abortion.
