The Weirdest Russian Counterattacks You Won't Believe Happened

As the war began, few imagined Ukraine could confront the formidable Russian Black Sea Fleet. By December 2023, that changed dramatically, with Russia losing over 20 warships to Ukrainian strikes. The once-mighty fleet found itself battered and forced into bizarre tactics to protect its remaining vessels.

Recent footage aired on state TV showed the Delta-IV class submarine Tula with an unusual appendage, interpreted as a desperate measure to evade Ukrainian assaults.

In Ukraine’s dense forests, a drone operator captured what looked like a Russian tank. As the drone approached, it revealed an inflatable decoy, highlighting the ongoing cat-and-mouse game of modern warfare.

On January 31, 2024, Ukrainian unmanned surface vessels (USVs) targeted the Russian corvette Ivanovets in Lake Donuzlav. Despite frantic defenses, the USVs dealt a devastating blow, sinking the corvette and showcasing Ukraine’s advancing naval capabilities.

The Kerch Strait became a key battleground, with the Russian bridge to Crimea frequently targeted. In August, six shadowy structures appeared near the bridge, likely defensive measures. However, Ukraine views them as minor obstacles in their mission to disrupt Russian supply lines.

This evolving conflict underscores the need for both sides to adapt quickly to survive and prevail.

  1. The British newspaper Mirror reported that Putin has a plan to flee to South America if he loses the war with Ukraine. The escape plan is codenamed "Operation Noah's Ark," and the destination is said to be Argentina or Venezuela. Mikhail Kovalchuk, a scientist who is a brain of Putin, has argued that "China should be a possible destination," but the Kremlin has ruled it out, saying that "China does not like losers."

  2. OK, so the cage blocks tiny drones. Subs will either face Sea Baby (or its counterparts) or missiles. I'd think those screen doors in the conning tower might be a better target. This is a joke, right? As for decoys, suicide drones cost around $600 while an inflatable decoy can cost $10K… still a win just not quite so big a payback. What's missing is a decoy crew running away.

  3. If you really think that a cope cage on top of a submarine's conning tower is a ground-breaking move for Russia, then you're even more stupid than your out-of-breath voice makes you out to be.
