The WASTED Potential with Tiana's Bayou Adventure

I got a chance to ride Walt Disney World’s newest attraction! Today we are going to dig into the entire ride experience of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. There are aspects of this attraction that are absolutely amazing, and there are aspects that are certainly lacking.

“Why it Sucks” may be a little harsh, but I do believe this ride could have been much better. We will discuss what problems this ride has and how I think they came to be.

Huge thank you to LMG Vids for footage used in this video!

Additional footage from Disney Parks, Marvel Studios, & Disney Drifter.

  1. 100% agree with Narrator this was just a woke statement rendered into a ride which shows and insults everyone’s intelligence. This was never about a better ride or story just a “woke me too” movement. Other theme parks will capitalize on this fumble.

  3. So this does make me feel like my initial reaction was a bit too harsh, but I feel you missed on addressing what I think is the biggest issue and that's pacing. Once we enter the indoor scenes there really shouldn't be dead spaces anymore.

  4. I also avoided spoilers and had the SAME thoughts about the story when I first rode it!! I had absolutely no idea what the plot was until we walked off and my mum (who read spoilers) asked if I knew we got shrunk. I looked at her and went "What? When?".

I think – like everyone else – that Disney really missed out on not including Dr. Facillier for some intensity and weight to the story. It's missing plot points along the ride. I'm all for show-dont-tell…… but now I'm begging for the characters to tell us whats going on!

I also didn't appreciate the salt mine aspect. Or the first Tiana animation idle either. I think there's so much they can do to fix it!! It's not hopeless for Tiana, let her have her restaurant like Be Our Guest and fix her ride story!!!

  5. The story really doesn't make any sense like at all
Why would we need to shrink down to frog size just to find more musical critters? Why would literally any of these characters be ok with Mama Oddie casually shrinking us to frog size, ESPECIALLY Tiana???
Why couldn't they have just had the ride go through the beats of the original story in the movie? They've done that with literally every other IP ride, so why not this one?
Like, could you imagine if we got to see Tiana's beautiful blue & green dresses IRL?? See snapshots of her's & Naveen's wild adveture??? All of the cool special effects with Dr Faciller's magic????
All that potential out the window… 😭

  6. To be honest, I kind of seen both sides to this situation. At one side Splash Mountain does need to be updated but on the other side there’s nothing actually controversial about the ride. The only thing that they have is just a movie locked in the back of the Disney fault that is never actually mentioned on the ride. At the same time I do applaud that Tiana has gotten her own ride with great musical and scenery immersions, but with it being broken down with animatronics like statues or not working properly maybe it would of been better if they gave that idea to a slow moving boat ride, omnimover, or a trackless ride system. Maybe, they were thinking of making Tiana one of those systems but thought it would be best for it to replace Splash Mountain. It might work better at one park or might not but the song at the end, I thought it was supposed to be a New Orleans Mardi Gras party kind of song not like a Broadway opening show about cooking where there’s no elements of that except the line.

  7. Just found your video. I rode this attraction twice. The first time the ride was down for 2.5 hours and then all the animatronics were in B mode and no dialogue. I didn’t understand the theme/what we are supposed to be doing at all. The second time everything was working but still didn’t get the full story of the ride. Felt chopped. Like other commenters said would have been better if we were either following the movie OR Dr Facilier escaped from the other side and he is causing havoc. I think splash mountain built up the drop so much and it was menacing vs this ride is oh we are just making you “big” again with no build up. The sitting down Tiana inside before you “shrink” also has a “stagnant” phase if you are paying attention.

  8. I will say this is what Universal has over Disney is that they already have the ride fully conceptualized before announcing it. Even if some rides aren’t as thrilling or exciting as others, their storytelling makes sense.

  9. its not even that they are bringing back dead characters- its that those rides are set at certain time periods. i know they said they didnt do dr facilier because they didnt want to offend those who practice voodoo, but also they made an entire movie so if that didnt offend people just use what you had in the movie. this ride is beautiful, but its not an adventure- youre just kinda there

  10. I'm one of the weirdos who wanted both Splash Mountain and Princess and the Frog ride at the same time. While I'm not happy to have to sacrifice one for another, Disney does slowly evolve over time. I decided I would give them the chance to prove that Splash Mountain did need a serious refurbishment. This was not it. Some of the scenery is great, some of the animatronics are more fluid…when they work. Hate the story and hate "The Laughing Place" knockoff. Definitely not the Imagineers' best, and honestly it feels like they gave up.
While I don't favor one theme park over the other, this level of complacency is why Universal Studios is quickly closing the gap with Disney. Disney's magic of going above and beyond is gone, as other theme parks are stepping up their game to the point that Disney is on par with most other major theme parks.

  11. A lot of people say that the main drop should have Dr Facilier but I think he should be at the drop where you shrink. Like he wants to ruin the party and so turns the guests into frogs. And then the big drop can be Mama Odie saving the guests and turning them back into humans. To fit the timeline maybe Dr Facilier doesn't appear in person but is just his shadow and his voice. He is the Shadow Man after all.

  12. Be careful not to conflate "employee owned" and "family owned." Just because something is employee owned doesn't mean it's a small family owned business, it just means profits at the end of the year are divided amongst the employees. Even then, the C suite can just give themselves a much larger percentage than a machine operator so it's not free of corruption.

  13. I understand why Disney felt they needed to replace Splash Mountain (although it is based on of real African-American stories from the Slave period – it was how the slave outsmarts the foreseer and master (fox and bear). But that is a different story.
At lease Splash Mountain has a story and joy at the end with the rabbit getting away. This has nothing. Yes the anamatroics are good, but they are new. Disney did little to keep Splash Mountain running pristine. Ditto on no employees being shown. It needed a villain trying to keep her away from Mardi Gras. Missed opportunity.

  15. I don’t agree that ‘Tiana’s Bayou Bash’ is a better name. If anything, it sounds like a bumper car ride!
I also don’t think that people who are only able to visit every few years (or less) are as bothered about the change (we have to save up for years to be able to travel from the UK), although I understand that locals become attached to rides the way they are.

  16. Disney is a park designed and made for kida guys, when it opened it was for children of All ages but now they now their demographic is very young, so yeah scary won't work. They should lease the animatronics and everything to Dollywood, Splash Mountain would make a come back in the mountains

  17. George Floyd died in May 25th 2020 and Tiana's bayou ride was announced in July 2022 and then officially announced opening June 28th 2024 in Disney world so what does George Floyd have to do with Tiana's bayou ride ? And not to mention all the other black women and men and children that were unalive by cops😢 and Disney is a corporate company they can do whatever they want so again what does George Floyd . have to do with Tiana's boat ride ? I hope someone can answer this question ❓ well to me Tiana has nothing to do with George Floyd 💀😢

  18. It’s totally fair to critique this ride experience without invoking it’s cultural impact… but then you brought up cultural impact and George Floyd as a critique. You can’t have it both ways. You can be humble and know you’re not the best person to speak on a topic, but then you can’t sneak your political opinions into it as if you’re still being a-political. And- it’s not enough to say George Floyd died. George Floyd was murdered, and that is a legal fact. You’re right that the cultural impact of this ride does not shield it from all critiques, just like your veneer of being ‘a-political’ does not shield you from all critiques.

  19. I was not happy that they dumped Splash Mountain. I'm pretty neutral on Tiana. I found the movie ok, but largely forgettable.
This is the first time I've seen the new re-theme of the ride and I'm pretty impressed. It looks beautiful: both outside and inside. I do agree with some of your nitpicks though. My only real major nitpick is that the whole being shrunk down concept seems so forced. There are no mountains or waterfalls in the bayous outside of New Orleans. That part of the state is flat. That makes the ride seem less fun: it's like Tiana is being wedged into something else (which she was).
But overall, the new attraction seems visually stunning. It doesn't look like it was just a quick refurb. The animatronics are impressive and I think that helps a lot. It makes it more of a salute to Tiana (something that she deserves: she is a Disney Princess. It wasn't my favorite movie, but she is an important part of Disney).

  20. i LOVEEEE ur analysis. As a huge disney rides nerd, its amazingg to see someone analyse and talk about rides the same way I do. I love how well you have communicated your thoughts in such a detailed and chronological manner. Youve covered everything people tend to miss such as the music, landscaping, queueing area, and the difference between concept and execution. Keep it up!!
