The War to End No Wars – Ils ne Passeront Pas – Battle of Verdun (1916)



In 1916 The German Empire launched The Battle of Verdun against the French Republic. It was the longest battle of the First World War and one of the most deadliest. 1916 was known as the year of battles and was host to the largest battles of World War One.

French Commander Robert Nivelle gave the order “They Shall Not Pass” to his French subordinates. This phrase became synonymous with the battle and served as inspiration for the French defending their homeland from the German invaders.

This documentary will go over key events through each year of the war to give greater context and understanding to the world first great global conflict.
