Unicorn Overlord is the latest release from Atlus and Vanillaware, but does this new title live up to the high standards set by these two gaming powerhouses? Iâm here to delve into that question, breaking down everything you need to know about Unicorn Overlord. Join me as we explore what this game has to offer, the aspects you may love (or not), and all the essential details that shape this new release.
Liberate Your Kingdom, Reclaim Your Destiny
From the masterminds that brought 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim and Odin Sphere, ATLUS x Vanillaware presents the rebirth of tactical fantasy RPG. Fight against fate and embark on a royal adventure to regain your reign alongside trustworthy allies.
Unicorn Overlord combines the timeless tactical RPG genre with overworld exploration and innovative battle system for a unique epic fantasy experience in the iconic Vanillaware style.
Key Features:
¡ Traverse a vibrant world, assemble units and direct them into exquisitely animated battles
¡ Perform heroic deeds and grow renown throughout the five nations
¡ Cultivate a grand army with over 60 unique characters, from humans and elves to massive beasts and heavenly angels
UNIT CUSTOMIZATION
Players can customize their party as they see fit, recruiting allies from different backgrounds.
BATTLEFIELD: STAGE
Within each battle stage, both sides will fight to take each otherâs command posts in thrilling real-time combat. You, the commander, must keep a close eye on the situation, making critical decisions like which units to send when or where. Victory is secured once youâve clear certain conditions, such as defeating the enemy general.
BATTLE
Individual battles begin when your units make contact with the enemy during a battle stage. Coordinate a unitâs tactics in advance with conditions that determine how and when skills will automatically be used. Balance your alliesâ classes and skills to form the strongest units for any situation!
KINGDOM OF CORNIA
Located in the center of the continent, Cornia claims fertile fields, a powerful military force, and the largest acreage of land out of all five kingdoms. The lords of the kingdom hold great loyalty to the royal family, and Queen Ileniaâs name is sacred to her subjects.

Thanks for watching, liking, and subscribing! Are you excited for Unicorn Overlord from Atlus and Vanillaware? This is another video where I went with no script and figured, see what happens!
W vid man. Keep it up
"You cant handle the truth!đŹ"
Im quite excited for this game.
Are they sending out review codes? I'm curious what people will say about the full version rather than the demo that we all have access to. It really does seem like a no-brainer day one purchase… although it seems like most Atlus RPGs (and Sega RPGs) end up on Game Pass, which makes me want to wait! (I know we're on a Switch channel, but I tend to like playing RPGs on a traditional console. The option is nice to have, but it seems like I just end up with the Switch docked playing RPGs anyway!)
Iâm not too familiar with the Vanillaware games, but they all have such amazing art! Really enjoyed the demo for this one.
I loved ogre battle 64 and I am beyond excited for this game as it's almost a spiritual successor. I cannot wait
I'm torn on this one. I enjoy Vanillaware games, but turn based tactics games are hit and miss for me. Not sure which this will be. I might have to try the demo and see if it hits or, well, misses. Either way, appreciate the review.
If you played ogre battle, go get this. If you never played. Go get this. This is ogre battles final form
Ogre Battle is Back.
Just from the demo I am pretty sure it's my game of the year unless there is a huge surprise game.
I already have the collector's edition pre-ordered for switch. This game is going to be epic.
I want to stress that while the battles are automatic, the priorites depending on how they attack and who they will attack as well.
If you have played 13 Sentinels Aegis Rim, buy this!
I didn't want the demo to end. Was a great 7 hours
I am into this genre of games, and now I'm really interested in the new mechanics they are adding. Can't wait to try the demo.
I think you have a huge spoiler in some of the footage here?
2:24 yes hearing Beaumont's VA's dialogues and lines made me smile from ear to ear no pun intended
Ultimately, the cheap skate in me is going to wait until it is 30 dollars. But it will be hard. Great demo
This will be one of those games thatâs talked about for decades. Itâs incredible.
The demo is enjoyable.
Has a strategy game ever made goty?
If i didn't have a massive rpg backlog, i'd definitely get this day oneđ
I had to Pre-Order the PS5 Collectorâs Edition of Unicorn Overlord after playing a sizable amount of the Demo! Iâve never played a Vanillaware Title, so Iâm very excited to jump into the foray! đŚ
I swear, if they put Vanillaware visuals on an edutainment game, I'll learn about anything.
this game has bombastic character worth of goty
Symphony of war has really been hitting that ogre battle itch for me but this will be great on the switch for on the go
Talking about bad timing release date, yeet'd between behemoth title ff7rebirth and Dragon Dogma 2, no way it will GOTYđ
I don't believe in GOTY anymore since all the nominees for the last one where the most recent release titles and think about it not many people are going to remember mario wonder after 1 year
I love this game but it definitely not goty its not normie friendly and its not a remake sadly
Thanks – going to keep my eye on this⌠but since when is someoneâs opinion âThe truthâ? Oh yeah, itâs the 2020sâŚ. >despair<
waiting for the limited edition… I was just not sure whether to switch to the ps5 version from the switch version… I have to try the demos
Vanillaware proves again artstyle is more important then graphic power
Game is great
Vanillaware game its an automatic win
Is it a a contender, yes.
Will it win, no.
why.
Because its not available on PC
Not this ugly looking trash game. Dude always hyping nonsense. Embarrassment to black folk everywhere. One of the worst of Spawnâs cronies. Go play Final Fantasy TacticsâŚ
I was super hyped but the combat was too hands off for me:
It's damn good
Still not even finished 13 sentinels yet
is combat just auto battle?
I want to get it but I still have way too many strategy rpgs to finish. I still havenât finished fire emblem three houses and triangle strategy. This is definitely going on the wishlist though
I love you Vanillaware <3
If infinite wealth does not even entering the goty this year idk of this could be. Plus ff7reb and dd2 also stellarblade and rise ronin
As excited as I am about this game, thinking that it has any chance at all for GOTY is pretty much insanity. This is a very niche title by a smaller dev known for niche titles. While I think it will still do well & will have a devoted fan-base….that fan-base will be in the minority & the game will not garner nearly enough attention to be GOTY.
You should have known Bruno would be a problem. There's a reason we don't talk about him.
It definitely feels like the spiritual sequel to the ogre battle games. I never understood why square enix never remaded or even brought the older ones over to old vc or even switch online. With that said the rouge class is stupidly broken.
As much as I love tactics games like this one, the month of March is already taken for my first JRPG love FF7 Rebirth lol. And April will probably be reserved for Dragons Dogma 2. This one will come after those two đ Damn, this year is turning out to be pretty great for gaming! Also really hope they release it on PC as well for playing on my Steam Deck (I don't have a switch and kinda don't want to get it on Playstation)
It looks like Unicorn Overlord will be an instant classic.
Pls stop hyping me up so much, im only going to get disapointed from all the expectation. Let it be a good game on its own.
