What is Destiny 2 like as a complete beginner? In this video, my friend Soup tries Destiny for the first time ever. Seeing the game through his perspective, this video investigates the current state of the new player experience in Destiny 2.
Is the new player experience really as bad as people say? Will my friend quit within the first few hours, or will he fall in love with the game and continue playing it for years? Watch and find out.
There were some wins, some losses and a lot of confusion, but overall we had some awesome experiences along the way. Huge shoutout to @SoupRS for partaking in this experiment, and if you’re interested in Oldschool Runescape then definitely check out his content!

What do u mean good intro? The red war wasnt even mentioned or when the traveler defended itself! Bungie has a lot to do before the community trusts them with anything.
Good luck guardians.
got on destiny today for the first time in 3 months. 7 pop ups when loading in. 10 different things flashing at me on the destination map. overwhelming for someone who has played for years.
havent played D2 in years and dont follow the content surrounding it. But this was some godtier stuff dude, gg.
Hmm
Play from red war. There is arrow on radar pointing us to target? (insert loud noise of me facepalming myself)
warframe's better…
If you dont fall in love with the story/lore or the crispy smooth gunplay/space magic then you will not keep playing destiny as a new player. I honestly believe its that simple. Not actually that simple of course nothing really is but yea
I got into this game last April and never looked back. I was intrigued by my friends playing and they lead me to the right direction and without them I don’t think i would’ve been very interested at all. So in conclusion you need to have someone show you the game who is very passionate about it.
19:44 what’s so weird is that Destiny 1 had ammo bricks with bullets inside of them, they were clear and you could see them and go “oh those are bullets” not loot
I thought you had to have the 30th anniversary pack to get the dates of eternity
watch out. he may make you do a series of challenges with some other people for a prize pool of shards.
I’ve always known that destiny is a bad game. It was only propelled into the mainstream by hype dungeon streams
Here's a review of the game from me, a random non-veteran Destiny player :
When i started playing destiny, i didnt know anything about the important stuff to upgrade my gear, i was just exploring the game and killing things. Sometimes i didnt know the use of what i was looting on my way, and sometimes it was intuitive enough for me to understand their use (like weapons and armors).
Also i've never paid attention to the story of the game, i've never played any campaign modes unless it would unlock something interesting like subclasses.
To me, this game was more like some kind of Doom-like to me.
Then, after 300 hours of playing Destiny 2 like an animal, i've been thinking "compared to the others, my damages are so low…"
, so i went on YouTube to watch tutorials on how to improve my gear, and i've only recently learned how to properly use mods on my armor. I had never paid attention to these before because they lacked details so much that i thought they were worthless.
Destiny’s new player tutorial feels like it was designed for a single player offline game, were it pauses you game to explain core gameplay mechanics, but in a online game were you are constantly fighting and everything is just pop ups it doesn’t work well.
I do share some gripes that Soup had with some of the things even though i was a returning player rather than a new player, i have been on and off as of recent, but i can see some of the issues that Soup sees, like the sense of direction not really being there, there were so many times i was thrust into a mission when i launched the game and i was just confused about since it showed stuff i wasnt at all knowing about. It took me about a couple of days playing to learn the Artifact system since it was still rather new to me at the time, i mainly learned about it after watching videos and sometimes the upgrades forced me to use weapons i weren't good with or just didn't like using just to make sure i had the right upgrades for champions. The overwhelming stuff with the menu's got me too and the fact i didnt know exactly what to do made me start playing the class exotic quests since i thought they would be good, though some of the exotics don't fit my playstyle at all. I kinda wish there was more direction and guidance for newer and returning players rather than getting tons of things just unnecessarily pushed down your throat
ive been playing for around 4 months, with a total of 200 hours, and i STILL don't know how to make public events heroic
Not gonna lie, i came across this video, watching it through my afternoon and noticed i got baited by the thumbnail, and this was too scripted to my liking lmao gg i guess
On the subject of new players and DLC.
The easiest way for a new player to experience the DLC is actually to make a user and PSN account on a PS4/5 that a user already has all the DLC on (don’t know about Xbox, I’m sure it works the same) and have them start there.
This has the advantage of all the users on the console being able to access and play the DLC however the seasons are still attached to the account the pre-orders and such are made on.
Also allows them access to pre-order stuff to mess about with if you want to give them even more to be confused about.
Imagine a new player trying to figure out Tessalation.
Edit 1: As for the long Tower load times, if you notice every time that happens, a TON of people enter the tower all at the same instant.
It’s not your PC, Console or Internet. It’s bungie’s servers always taking a dump loading the tower.
The fact that new players of destiny 2 will never meet Cayde is just cruel…
It took me so long to realize that guardian ranks existed that when i dicovered it, i had already five ranks done. 😅
damn d2 gave those 3 bricks of heavy to soup instead of my fireteam in vow today
i was running gjallahorn and ON THE DPS PHASE half way through
i run out of heavy and was unable to provide pack hunter until a heavy brick dropped after the dmg phase ended
not much use when the dmg phase ends and your support player (me) gets shitty rng
THE DEVS ARE PUSHING NEW PLAYERS TO THE META BY PUTTING THEM ON ARC TITAN
also did soup ask about why amanda holliday just disapears after the intro sequence or did he not question it
i played destiny for years at one point i considerd my self a goat
I've played destiny for abput 7 years and never knew how "shields" worked. "wHy IS tHIs SHiElD PuRPLe aNd tHiS sHieLd ORaNge?!"
