The Simpsons suffered the most infamous fall in media history, but apparently… its good again? OR IS IT? We join Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and Maggie to find out.
Note- in an early version of this video I say Al Jean wrote Season 33 Episode 12- That was actually John Frink. My bad.

Hello friends. Thanks to everyone for sticking with me, even when its been a while between videos. I am genuinely always shocked by the support this channel receives.

If neither of these are an option for you, I still appreciate the heck out of you being here and watching the videos.
Drink an entire bottle of everclear every time Super Eyepatch Wolf finds a way to connect a video essay to Silent Hill 2 (god i fucking love it every time)
just hearing about some of these episodes forced tears out of my eyes
Gremlins 2 certainly is a 7 out of 7.
I've never watched an episode of the simpsons. If you'd asked me before watching this what my thoughts on the show were, I would have said I just do not care. But. We can never return to what we once were. We are permanently changed by the passage of time and the cumulative effects of everything we've ever experienced. And so I guess I care about the simpsons now
Mr Wolf. I have stopped the video at 25.12. I have no idea where you are going with this. I don't know why this is on the screen. I have 40 more minutes and at some point you will likely get back into the simpsons. But, here I am, wondering just how much of this video will be about this thing you've just brought up. Will you do more about this? How much will you do about this. I'm on the edge of my seat. And you deserve to know every feeling I'm having in this moment, you sick, sick amazing man.
You are so wildly talented at what you do and the care you put into the topics and scripting is phenomenal. Even as we look at the reverberations of Simpsons, as you mention, you did the first one six years ago? The reverberations are also your own now. And not in a bad way, not like your video about the fall of bleach or your return to it. Taking the creative risks you do, bring up what you are at 25.12 is just such an absolute pleasure. Like it's the feeling of surprise, genuine surprise, and that's the one feeling you can never give yourself.
So…I don't know what happens from here. But as a creator, I'd like to know when the times I'm being a little shit pay off and it has sir. Well played. I'm going to get back to it!
You can learn a lot about someone by getting them to talk about past/childhood interests. The more enthusiastic or rose-tinted their reminising becomes and the less they focus on the negatives from that point of their life, the more likely it is that they are feeling lost and sad today.
Your video helped me realize that. Thanks mate.
I hope you'll always make what you want to make. We'll keep watching. You're fun
Bravo! This video is fantastic. One of your best for certain! Congrats!!
Ooo a referens to west world! Have you seen it John??
You're my favorite content creator, every video either makes me want to binge something or makes me incredibly emotional or both and more importantly makes me think much deeper about everything. Amazing video.
Ok change is good, blah blah blah- why does Lou sound like that though?
At this point I need someone's ongoing excel sheet of all the worthwhile eps to watch
I havent watched the simpsons in years but I did watch the Treehouse of Horror last year and yeah, i found it enjoyable. Simpsons has a lot of mediocre episodes but among them theres always a few great ones. Its like finding a needle in a haystack
ive always known that if i too physically fought this guy i too would get a boner 😔
Absolutely wonderful, the exact feels I needed.

Another great essay. Yours always either give me a new perspective on something or helps put one I already had into words.

For me, the main thing holding the most recent seasons back is the voice cast. They're fine, but they no longer elevate the material.
I just hit the 40 minute mark and started to get hype when the stardust press got brought into this Simpsons video.
Supereyepatch wolf, I love you (as a youtuber), you are an incredible youtuber and a very funny dude, please make a video on punpun, it won't dissapoint.
simpsons was never good and will never be good again.
I find it ironic that apu was cancelled by an Indian for the voice not being done by an Indian, and the result is no Indians on the show anymore, as if people with accents don’t exist
The old grey mare she ain’t what she used to be

This video is one of my favorites so far! It struck me on an emotional level.
There is no reason why you would know this, but the Simpsons are an enormous part of popular culture for my generation where I grew up, in Buenos Aires. Most people have seen every episode several times and can recite a lot of lines, to the point where we use Simpsons references in regular conversations as shorthand for situations or our feelings, almost like new idioms ('the bowling ball', used to refer to a gift that the giftee will enjoy less than the gifter, comes to mind as an example). For many of us it may be one of the few things we have in common, as I suspect religion may have been in different centuries.
Interesting, we tend to split the episodes into the 'good old' ones (up to 2007) and the new, worse ones, with the divider being the movie instead of the 10 seasons mark.
Last year, over the course of about 5 months, I watched all 750 Simpsons episodes; and it was all for the first time ever. This was insanity inducing, and I don't suggest it, but it was educational. I had no nostalgia for the earlier seasons, because I am younger than the Simpsons, and so a lot referential jokes from the 90's and early 2000's go over my head. Not a quitter though, so I had the wiki open and going during my watch-through.
There was this phenomenon while I was watching through where sometime around season 16 I finally started actually "getting" the episodes and the jokes. The alleged "Golden Age" was great episodes of funny cartoons, but I was raised on a diet of Adult Swim and Family Guy, so this "bold daring subversive humor" just left me tilting my head and a little confused about the past. Watching episodes and seeing meme after meme after joke I've heard somewhere else without knowing the source was so distracting that
without the nostalgia factor
watching classic Simpsons is like attending a funny surreal history lecture.
(That said I do feel like there was some kind of dip after around 2012, but I blame societal forces at the time. But it is vindicating that while I was watching I noticed an uptick in the last couple of seasons, and having that recognized as something other people think.)
This was an absolute masterpiece
It's funny, "it's not the way it used to be" is exactly what I LIKE in this channel! I enjoyed those old videos of yours when I first saw them and what they were in their era was fun and good, and now I get to enjoy new media with that voice I used to like.
But what I REALLY want to say is that you absolutely keep me going as a creator! Even in the hardest times, I find myself thinking of things you've said and going "You know, it's fine. I always knew we'd come to this point, and it'll be ok in the future, just as it was before that."
SO HAPPY YOUR BACK!
Is this video Super Eyepatch Wolf trying to delude himself into thinking that the crappy overdramatic videos he's making now will be magically considered untouchable classics on the years to come? Of course it is! (I'm kidding please take this as a joke I like your videos)
Go home crow mauler, you're drunk
I watch the classics Christmas theme episodes annually as my own little tradition on Christmas and i love them. Tree House of Horror was absolutely gold. Generally media from the 90's and 2000s is what i enjoy the most. I think its how genuine it feels like, the passion to show a piece of television. Obviously there is amazing TV today, but its something that feels more corporate, i guess?
Whatever issues this show may have, it's extremely frustrating to see it being criticized for not matching up to what's seen through someone's rose tinted glasses.
"The show is boring, but it promotes my values, therefore good"
“Some chicks are guys…and that’s ok!” Is this the first ever trans joke on the Simpson where the butt of the joke isn’t trans people!? We’ve reached the stage where they actually poke fun at people trying clumsily to be allies? This is huge news to me!
A Serious Flanders is just a 1-1 parody of Fargo
