  1. Thanks as always for listening, folks! As I said in the intro, HB was in its infancy when we first tackled Innsmouth — I hope this new recording demonstrates some maturity. Of course, the 2016 recording will remain live on the channel. PS — If you listen closely to the new version, you might just catch the characteristic chuckle of 2016 Zadok…!

  2. Nice. I really enjoyed your reworking of this one, Ian.
    Graphics are really exceptional too!

LOL. Apparently a brief weekend visit to S’brough inspired you whilst staying at THAT certain large hotel located on the sea front?

  4. I hate this intro. One line out of context for no reason from one story.
How on Earth could you think that's better than the name of the channel being typed out with old typewriter sounds with a nice slightly spooky piano playing in the background?!
    IT'S MADNESS.

  5. I love your work HB best narrator I’ve ever seen. I live in Massachusetts actually right in where dunwich was based off of, wilbraham. Idk if you’d be interested in the info and I don’t mean this as disrespectful, but up here we actually never see the southern accent lol. I wish it wasn’t such a trope.

  6. This was unexpected Ian but a pleasant surprise!
Ialways used to love the old one, it was one of the first of your recordings I listened to.
That said you can see how much you've grown into this stuff, this one is great, hits the tone just right.
This was always one of my favorite Lovecraft stories, the way it builds up tension and a sense of unease at the start, with the stories about Innsmouth and then the guys exploration of the ruined town, leading uo to Zadoks crazy story, that you're wondering how much truth is mixed in with it, and what the real story is, and then the attack at the Hotel, and his frantic flight through the streets at night… Lovecraft was a master at this stuff, and you do his stories justice in a way no other narrator Ive listened to can.
You have a real talent for this.

  7. I just saw Ians photo, he couldn't look less like the owner of the voice l had imagined and far younger.
I had imagined some kind of x between Christopher Lee and Alec Guiness x Peter Cushion. But instead he looks about 30 odd stocky and a little like he was left over from the 70s lol.
Which just shows what a great voice artist he is.
Thanks for the brilliant work, finding these storys has for me been like discovering treasure trove.
Thanks again Ian and everyone involved for this collected work of audio excellence.
No amount of praise is enough.

  8. Wow! Excellent – so professional. Loved the unobtrusive sound effects which added to the feeling of the story. you both have certainly learned much and know how to use that experience. Really enjoyed this new version. Thanks much to both of you 🎭🌷🌱

  9. All my homies hate Innsmouth, strange people though they may be I sometimes find myself on the edge of town — my body pointed towards that long oft reviled destination. I am losing my memories, though the homies say that I have never been more lively. I have lost hair, and apparently been taking it in stride. I bought a ticket, a purchase of which I have no recollection. I have apparently convinced the homies to ride along. I am at the gate — looking at the bus that will take me there; to innsmouth. I feel serene. I am at home.

  10. Your original recording has been amongst my favorites for years. I’ve listened to it multiple times all through. It’s what brought me to pursue more of Lovecraft’s work in the first place.

    Genuinely, thank you.

As for this recording, it’s greatly appreciated and absolutely fantastic.

  11. I apologize in advance for being such a downer, irrespective of how much i appreciate your work over the years.
I was a sub way back when you were still in your "formative" early years. I must say:
I am happy with the lack of 56k modem noises in the background.
I am not happy with the overacting in the first act… very very i guess the word is "cringey". Not exactly cringe as the kids say these days- but just difficult to listen to. The rest is great thank you!
