In a time when the echoes of the Norse gods still whispered through the mountains and fjords, Norway, once united under the iron will of King Harald Fairhair, had crumbled into a shadow of its former glory. The days when Fairhair had subdued every rival king and ruled the land as one, had long since faded into legend. With his death, the fragile unity he forged shattered. The petty kings, once humbled beneath his sword, rose again, each declaring themselves rulers of their own fragmented realms.
Fairhairโs descendants, bound by blood yet torn apart by ambition, waged relentless wars for the throne, plunging the land into chaos. Amid this turmoil, a giant known as Haakon the Poweful, said to be a descendant of the legendary Ivar the Boneless, seized control of the country. Yet even he was but a vassal to the Danish King, signaling the end of Norwayโs independence. The mighty house of Fairhair became a distant memory, its legacy fractured as its descendants scattered across the land, content to rule over mere scraps of what once was a mighty kingdom.
But fate had not forgotten the Fairhair bloodline. From the ashes of a broken Norway, one man would rise to reclaim the legacy of his forefathers. Olaf Haraldsson, the great-great-grandson of Fairhair, would embark on a journey that would carve his name into historyโnot just as a king, but as a saint. Born a pagan, with his blood stained axe seeing countless battles, he would be remembered as a saint. This is his story.

Brilliantly told thank you โค you brought Olaf to life. I love listening to these pods as the pieces of history are like a puzzle and slowly starting to fit together between the Danish,Norsmen and English. AeEhelred is still my favorite !!
This is great.. I have Swedish Viking roots.. what I wonder is why conquering armies like to burn everything.. I can see slaughtering everyone that makes sense.. but burning everything…??? Wtf else is there to do with the land if everything is destroyed???..
I guess build on the ashes and skulls????
Anyone here know what the conquerors do with the land they've taken and pillaged and burned???
I'm very very interested in all things norse.. the mythology..the history…the ships the Weaponry.. everything..
I've always wondered..really appr3ciaye anyone's insight..

Brilliant just brilliant!! ๐ฏ๐๐ฏ
– Thank you for sharing.
From the Flatรธy book, Volum III :
– When Olav was eight years old, he got hold of Bรฆsing, the sword of Olav Geristadalv. And wouldn't let it go.
Sigurd tries two or three times to get the sword back. The third time, Olav draws the sword with the point aimed at the King, while he himself holds the hilt.
– Sigurd says: Why don't you give me the scabbard or the handle of the sword?
– Olav then answers: Until now I have neither the age nor the strength to refuse you to take Bรฆsingen from me by force, but I will not give it up without holding the sheaths and handles myself.
Let's listen to the best tonight! Thank you for the epic video

Thanks for the good video โ๏ธ
Itโs Eddie hall. Imagine a dude like that way back in the days.
I was curious as i did not hear how olaf changing to christian but being able to convince the other kings to bow to him. Seams that being christian did not bother the pagans. I thought it would of been a massive issue.
Stop calling a saint king, annointed by God Ruler, a mad king. Pray for us saint Olaf.
God damn I love every video this channel puts out. Iโve wanted a channel that had longform doc-style content that really focuses on this exact time period. Such an awesome channel
You should do a video on the descendants of Harald!( like your descendants of sigurd video)
Making history very interesting ๐๐ป๐๐ป
Interesting stuff for sure
Hin and harald hardrada being brother in surprising
I live some kilometers from Stiklestad and sadly there isn`t any archeological traces of a battle happened there and still a church was built at the proclaimed site where he died,- 200 years later. So the location is mentioned in the king` sagas, heimskringla and some other sources.
