Dang. I'm a sucker for the Paper Mario & TTYD gameplay and art style but I only made it halfway through Bug Fables and this sounds really disappointing. I reccomend Ikenfell. Has a grid based system combined with unique microgames for each attack. Only downfall is its a bit short.
Seems meh.
I personally don't like the style, I am not the target audience for this game.
It does seem like the type of things children will most likely find charming.
haven't played the game so this review might be completely accurate, but it feels kind of unnecessarily brutal.
I played it and beat it. This review is accurate. You can see glimpses of great game but it falls short in many areas.
harsh words ^^
ooh, brutal
"Review copy provided by the publisher" and 19 times out or 20 it gets trashed. Honesty's good I guess but very often it feels like 3min reviews are here only to take the piss on small indie developers.
I love this video series, but this guy seems to only review games he hates. His version of this series is always “don’t play this game, and this is why.”
The concept seems extremely cool, but this game was bound to live or die by its story and writing, sad to hear it was the latter
A comment to feed engagement to our overlord, the almighty algorithm!
Our first games will always be a bit shitty. Game looks good, but control over pacing and gameplay balance comes from experience. We need harsh critics to tell us what we did wrong… rather than bootlickers that tell us everything is finem but then our games never get picked up.
I know its harsh to see someone getting beat up, but someotimes we need it.
(I say "we" because I am an indie game dev. My first critiques were HARSH!!)
Is that the same font they use in the Paper Mario games aswell? Is that just a Switch thing?
I honestly loved this game. It looks cute, so I didn't mind walking around a lot. It has turn based battles, which I like and I don't mind them being long. The story is not that strong, but it kept me going the whole game.
For me it was a lovely experience that I would recommend to others.
I have no meaningful comment, but here's one for the algorithm.
Thank you for the review!
Bought the game day one, played it a bit, had the exact same opinion seen in this review and went back to play the original Paper Mario on N64 instead.
That's a real shame considering how much more paper mario I need in my life.
Ouch…harsh but very well presented. If the game was as good as the review, I'd definitely buy it! But looks like a good potential for a Switch game when it goes on sale.
Paper mario but with no mario 🙂
Idk, I’ve played about 5 hours and loved it so far. Good challenge and exploring is definitely rewarded. Maybe that will change by the time I roll credits, but so far I’d recommend it to anyone who’s looking to scratch that OG paper Mario itch.
