“Thanos Rising” is a Marvel Comics miniseries that chronicles the origin of Thanos, one of the most famous villains in the Marvel Universe. Written by Jason Aaron and illustrated by Simone Bianchi, the comic consists of five issues that delve into Thanos’ early life and how he became the “Mad Titan”.
Thanos was born on the moon Titan, the child of the Eternals’ leader, Mentor (A’lars) and Sui-San. From birth, his hideous appearance due to Deviant Syndrome made his mother want to kill him, believing that Thanos would bring destruction. Although he grew up as an intelligent and loving child, he felt alienated due to his different physique. His interest in science led Thanos to study life and death, while a mysterious friend encouraged him to explore the dark side of himself.
As an adult, Thanos began killing for the sake of science. However, this killing became an obsession, and he ended up slaughtering the entire population of a planet in order to understand death. The mysterious woman who kept Thanos company turned out to be the personification of death, which made him fall in love with the concept of the end of life. This obsession shapes Thanos’ future motivations, including his quest to master the Infinity Stones to please Death.
The comic chronicles Thanos’ dark journey from wounded child to the greatest threat to the universe, highlighting the trauma, loneliness, and obsession that shaped his character.

  1. by eternals do you mean the 100 superhuman beings and offshoots of humanity created by the celestials. But I thought the eternals couldn't mate with themselves. unless they mated with another race. I never really understood that. why can't they mate with other eternals?

  2. how was Titan such a utopia? just for context, around 14000 children die on earth each day. and no child has died in 200 years. I know this is comics but, talk about perfection. it's like probably one of those towns where nothing bad happens so the bad people can steak out the unsuspecting people to land a catastrophic blow.

  3. I wonder why they changed Thanos's motives in the MCU. in the MCU, he wanted to snap half the population cause he believed he was some kind of savier. but in them comics right here, it's cause he's a simp.
