The Noble Art Of Amateur Boat Building ;-) – SV Tapatya EP256

Well, we have 4 rudder irons (sort of) and I get inspired to wax lyrical about the joys of DIY building. Along the way, the sail drive returns to its intended location!

This is the story of the building of a Jay Benford designed, 31.8ft, junk schooner-rigged cruising sailboat. The videos are a week-by-week record of the build as it progresses and aim to show as much detail as possible of the various aspects of the build.

These videos take a lot of time and effort to make, in what is already a time-intensive project. Your support in watching, subscribing and sharing these videos is very much appreciated. You make a real difference!!

If you’d like to throw a few bucks in the boat building kitty in appreciation of the efforts here, you can do this by;

  2. Hi Tony, what you call a double ender, I call that a displacement hull, or is that something else, or have I had it wrong all these years. Don't forget, all those whit bushes you've made, make a FULL set of spares to take with you on you and your wife's travels far and wide. Did you order enough bronze to make a spare rudder shoe Tony. Take care, stay safe. Seeya Rob

  3. Another enjoyable video to complete my Thursday (and Thanksgiving) evening. Very good progress on the rudder fittings and getting the sail drive back in. Welding is always a good job to have available when the weather gets cold as you can get something done and stay a little warm in the process. Thank you again for inviting us along on this adventure. Best wishes for an enjoyable weekend with the family.

  4. Nothing beats the feeling of building things successful by yourself. I wish I had your woodworking skills, I am good with metal, mechanical stuff in general, and electronics, but wood and I are no friends. (That is why I have a steel sailingboat)

  5. Armature Builders = just make something and see if it works.
    Vs. sudo boss saying "you're not qualified to do that!"
    Me "Oh my apologies, I thought a degree in engineering and and engineering mindset meant something".
    Boss "No! That is not your JOB!"
