Interesting study! Scripture is clear, however, that the current heavens and earth will be completely dismantled. Let’s investigate the pages of the Bible, fellow brethren:
“But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.” – 2 Peter 3:10
I take “pass away” at face-value, which means death, synonymous with destruction.
“And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them.” – Revelation 20:11
Notice the final phrase of this verse: “…and there was found no place for them.” Meaning, of course, that the current heavens and earth will permanently vanish.
“For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind.” – Isaiah 65:17
Okay beloved, in order for the former heavens and earth to “not be remembered, nor come into mind”—they must be annihilated from existence.
“And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.” – Revelation 21:23
“They shall hunger no more, neither thirst any more; neither shall the sun light on them, nor any heat.” – Revelation 7:16
Understand, saints, that the blazing obliteration of the current heavens and earth will destroy everything that exists in the universe—including the sun and moon. This Biblical affirmation of the sun’s demise, along with billions of other celestial giants near and far from the Milky Way Galaxy, will cause the instantaneous destruction of the entire universe—yes, including the earth.

I think the new earth is going to be just like how our bodies will be changed…we are still us, but made flawless to live forever.
