Transcript: This is the most crowded island in the world. Just two hours away from the coast of Colombia lies Santa Cruz del Islote, an island with the highest population density in the world. Picture fitting over 1,200 people into an area the size of one soccer field, which is four times more crowded than Manhattan! There isn’t enough drinking water and electricity for the whole day. But there’s a school up to 10th grade, two stores, and a restaurant. Since everyone knows each other well, there’s no official police force or strict law. In the past, nobody inhabited this island. Local fishermen used it solely as a safe haven during storms. It was constructed on a coral base as part of the San Bernardo Archipelago. After many years, these fishermen and their families began to live there permanently. Now, approximately 540 people reside in 97 to 115 houses spread across different parts of the island. They sustain themselves by fishing and welcoming tourists.
