When the globe leaped into conflict in the late 1930s, governments around the world scoured for funding and materials that could be used for their nation’s side of the fight. And as Germany unleashed its might and power against the Allies in Europe, top Third Reich officials enlisted an engineering marvel into their arsenal.
The Junkers G.38 four-engined transport aircraft was the pride and joy of the Luftwaffe officials and had worked in civilian operations for a decade. It featured a blended wing design, where the body, fuselage, and wings merged with no clear dividing lines.
In addition to being a novelty, this unique wing configuration allowed a few lucky passengers to get incredible scenic views from their seats on the wings.
And during the earlier years of the conflict, the globally admired model participated in several bomber and transport roles, fighting for the Axis powers with all its might…

Join Dark Skies as we explore the world of aviation with cinematic short documentaries featuring the biggest and fastest airplanes ever built, top-secret military projects, and classified missions with hidden untold true stories. Including US, German, and Soviet warplanes, along with aircraft developments that took place during World War I, World War 2, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Cold War, the Gulf War, and special operations mission in between.
As images and footage of actual events are not always available, Dark Skies sometimes utilizes similar historical images and footage for dramatic effect and soundtracks for emotional impact. We do our best to keep it as visually accurate as possible.

You have got to admit, the Germans were a long way ahead from us in aircraft ideas, thank God we had brilliant engineers and scientists as well, plus the RAF and Bletchley Part for information, when Americans joined us, the writing was on the wall for Germany, with their engineering might that was it for Hitler, apart from the fact he was a raving lunatic.
incredible
(07:10) *British crews.
Whoa!!!
And i thought, it's gonna be about the "Maxim Gorky" airplane…
Excellent presentation.Your video reminds me of Mark Feltons channel.
Clear concise information well presented.
Windows 95 ?:)
Help, engines turned blue and wont turn 🙂
Wingdows !
Looking at those giant spats around landing gear. At what point did they say "why don't we work on making these retract?".
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believes on me has everlasting life. John 6:47 "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life." John 3:16

If not for 1930's German technology we'd still be living in the 1980's.
Para verte mejor, for see better.
I am not shure if i had to laugh or cry seeing the vid.
What a beast, which model had the crazy wheel pants?
Presumably there are no surviving examples of this innovative aircraft.
What a pity.
Short term requirements for recycling, or reusing metals post war, has
denied us so much access to aviation and military technical history.
Don't buy anything in the adspam
is it just me or did i hear unus annus soundtrack??
Dark Skies repeatedly says the G-38 is a blended wing design, but it clearly isn't. An under view is shown at 0.25, and an upper view is shown at 2:02. In both views a very clear delineation between the fuselage and the wings is seen.
Just because the thing is so big you can go inside the wings does not make it a blended wing design.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I would Argue this was Not the largest aircraft in the world! Not even close! the largest aircraft in the world for heavier than aircraft Perhaps, But the largest aircraft in the world?! Uh Uh…!
That distinction still belongs to the DLZ129 Hindenburg zeppelin! Largest aircraft of all time lighter than air or heavier than air!
The Hindenburg zeppelin would dwarf this aircraft!
This narrator makes these vids unwatchable.
Skip. Moronic. This channel CONSISTENTLY lies. Why do you waste your time putting together interesting archival footage and then insult your audience by lying about what we're seeing. Case in point; this crapola video. The G.39 was not a mega-bomber. Two were built and served as crappy passenger aircraft. One destroyed itself in a 1936 test flight, and the other was destroyed on the ground in Athens by the RAF in 1941. Mega-bomber? Mega-b.s.
I question whether those passengers in the wing were riding "in comfort". I, once — count it — ONCE — rode in a DC3 still in commercial service in the 1960s. (I had Mickey Spillane's first novel, My Gun is Quick , to read on the flight so I had a nostalgic setting for a nostalgic book.) I had a wing seat. The noise and vibration levels were quite unexpected compared to jet planes. I occasionally looked out at the wing in the dark wondering if I would see vibration make the rivets come loose.
Those passengers would be extra close to the noise and vibration of those engines.
I would hazard a guess that few other Junkers aircraft were far more influential to aviation than G38. W33/34 and especially G24/K30 were forerunners of things to come in many ways.
Your mini-docs are the best! So many models and incredible stories around planes! Thank you for your efforts.
Damn fine idea.
Cheesey Brits ruin everything including this cool prototype.
Allot thanks ( Dark skies) channel for sharing this interesting video about precious Germany attempts for designing largest airplane ✈️..before Nazism state ruling Germany 🇩🇪 after WW1…
How noisy would that be, sitting right next to that engine.
