In this livestream – one of a series I’m doing on Henry VIII – I’ll be delving into the early life of one of England’s most iconic monarchs, Henry VIII.
From his birth to his accession to the throne, I’ll be exploring the education and upbringing that shaped the man who would become one of history’s most notorious figures. We’ll discover the influences that moulded Henry’s character, and look at how things changed when he went from spare to heir, and how his education prepared him for the challenges of ruling a kingdom.
Join me on a journey through the formative years of one of the most fascinating figures in English history.

Hello 👋
I'm from Tennessee, I've learned more about English history and the kings and queens by watching your channel!
Sorry I missed the live. Great talk!
Hi everyone and Claire from Canada
What’s the name of the sculpture you can see in the cover image of the video?
I am so glad you shared your feelings about the venerated Wolfhall series – I too didn’t enjoy the books or the tv show. I tried SO so so hard to like it but I didn’t. The books have been sitting on my bedside table for good two years and I haven’t been able to get back to them. The tv show was equally bad and the portrayal of Anne Boleyn highly unpleasant, unreasonably vicious and one dimensional. There’s not a single thing I could point out about Wolfhall that I liked. The portrayal of Thomas Cromwell has been captured in a more compelling and convincing manner by the works of Diarmaid MacCulloch and Tracy Borman.
I am halfway through "Mary Tudor The Tragical history of the first Queen of England" by David Loades. What a different childhood Henry and his daughters had!
Hello from British Columbia, Canada
So bummed I missed the live ! Love the live chats, so much fun
hello claire!!!💜
Missed the live but love hearing and learning more!
Missed the live but I would have asked if there was a perhaps subconscious feeling of of illegitimacy in the new Tudor line? They seem obsessed with creating lineage that proved their right to the throne. How did the public REALLY feel about a quick switch from Plantagenet to Tudor. Will we ever know ?
Hi! I wanted to say thank you for your awesome and informative videos. I love Tudor history and in particular Anne Boleyn,. I’ve learned so much from your channel and wanted to say thank you!!❤
Thanks!
Maybe it was good that Thomas More did not know his future.😱
