The Lord Mayor's Show Rehearsal | The Ghost Parade

In this video, Sinead and James take you to see the historic London Ghost Parade, the rehearsal for this weekend’s Lord Mayor’s Show. NEXT VIDEO – The Royal Mews: https://youtu.be/yMS1QdR-4TY

Want to book Sinead for a private tour? Contact our London Manager, Margaret: [email protected].

Join Tours by Foot as we walk the city streets before daylight to witness the practise for an ancient tradition. Steeped in history, the annual Lord Mayor’s Show is a spectacular event loved by visitors and locals alike. But, to pull off this incredible spectacle, rehearsals are a must. So, a few days before the parade, the police, officials, horses, and the new Lord Mayor (Alistair King) all come together to see if practise really does make perfect.

The Ghost Parade travels throughout the hushed streets of the City of London in an eerie but beautiful display of excess and tradition. Sinead and James will take you on a journey to take it all in, including up-close and detailed views of the beautiful State Coach.

  3. Found this so fascinating, had no idea of the swearing in. I am actually descended from George Barnes II, Lord Mayor in 1552. I’m Canadian so found this especially fascinating, thank you!

  4. I have in my mind a perfect little pocket-sized, spiral-bound notebook with laminated pages and detailed images of every uniform, carriage, horse, livery, etc. so if one goes to a parade or Trooping the Colour they can identify and learn about what they are seeing. Does such a thing exist? Seems like James is the person to write one if it doesn’t.

  6. "Oranges and Lemons say the bells of St Clements…" can't remember the rest of the rhyme, which relates to the Livery Companies associated with each City church and the tunes the bells chime. A Smithfield pub with a Market License can't smell as bad as Billingsgate ones did. Covent Garden ones must have had the best smell when the Flower Market was there. It was said one could legally drink in London pubs 24/5, not Sunday or Monday, markets not open and late Theatre Licensed pubs couldn't trade into Sunday.

  7. BRILLIANT Sinead (and James)!! Superbly BRILLIANT! I very much appreciate your unselfishness to drag yourselves out of warm beds to head out on a damp, chilly early morning wee hours to show us a "Ghost Parade." LOVE the chatting explanations. Supremely Well Done. So deeply appreciated over here 'across the pond!' Without you two, I would've never seen this in my life. 🥰
