  1. So glad your hooked on this show. Looking forward to season two.
These last 3 episodes are definitley a scene pack to be watched together. It just freaks me out how out of order it was from the game. The Anders fight was in the castle, the "Lady" in the dungeon led them to Anders and Cass, Vax said I love you to Keyleth after she saved Cass life. Which was a great moment IRL, Marisha Rays face turned as red as her hair.
Anyway all the story beats are there just rearranged. They just didnt give any lead up to who they found in the dungeon like they did in the game. I thought it was funny how at the begining of the episode you were all "So Percy is the only one with a gun in this world" and Im thinking your half right, the only one with a working gun actually.

  2. The game started streaming midway through this campaign… the characters were already level 9 (out of 20 you can reach).. when the first session was streamed.
there was also a shift from one ruleset (they were playing pathfinder which is based on an older version of dungeons and dragons) to a relatively new one (5th edition dungeons and dragons, or 5E DnD)
this allowed and in some cases forced for a few rewrites and edits on the characters that didn't have a 1on1 parallel from one game system to the other. Percy, for instance, was a gungslinger in Pathfinder, something that did not exist yet in DnD when they started playing under those rules, so his abilities were customised/houseruled by Matt Mercer, the game master.

Pike became a war cleric, but she didn't start out that way… she was a peaceful cleric when she first joined the party (again, pre-stream).. then she died.. her character died and was brought back by the rest of the party. on that occasion, she returned as a war cleric, more combat oriented.. went through a bit of a faith crisis.. even hung out with some pirates for a while…all of this is pre-stream and only relayed to us later.

During the actual stream, Ashley Johnson who plays her was tied up in New York working on the TV show Blindspot (Where Pike was mentioned a couple times for fun)… her absence was justified as her needing to work on a rediscovered temple to the everlight, that was unearthed and needed a cleric to supervise the excavations and reconsecration.
in the cartoon, they are sort of mixing the two themes together, also to give some meat to a character who otherwise, in this part of the story, has very little screen time and almost no real character growth.
also, she and Grog have a relationship that predates them both joining the party.

sidenote: Delilah was a powerful necromancer even before she found the book of the whispered one.

  3. That moment when Pike returns made me yell FUCK YEAH when I saw the series. Must have seen that sequence 50 times. 🤩
I laughed alot at the dirty joke Scanlan made with the whacking off. 🤣

I love your reaction to this series. I hope the second season will be just as great, so you can have fun with these characters for some more time, like the rest of us.

  4. It's a testament to both the show's quality and your ability to analyse it in depth, how well you understand these characters and this world without having seen the campaign. Especially Vex. Not many non-critters get why Vex is this way, or don't spend time trying to understand her. And it makes sense, because we've only seen just a tiny bit of her so far.

But you get it. You get all of it. It's so fun to watch.

I'm excited for you to get to the end of the season!

  5. Iirc Talliesin created Percy to be a sympathetic evil character. He invented the gun with full knowledge of all the deaths that would result in order to get his revenge. He subsequently tried to limit the spread of the technology but that was his origin.

  6. One of the best things aout the comics and the animation is that you're not stuck with the perspectives of the players. Delilah was already an archmage when Sylas fell ill. The rifle is literally called Bad News. And Pike skypes in! Her family name is Trickfoot for a reason… she's the white sheep of the family.

Originally, Vax declared his love after the fight with Anders (before collapsing from his wounds); Marisha's reaction was priceless. Archie lived, Vedmire was imprisoned… but their deaths are more dramatic, and it's not like we saw much of them since.

  7. January 20th is the new season. You are timed so well to just roll into season 2. So small fyi, they released season one in batches of 3 or 4 episodes, but i think it was weekly that they did that. So when you get caught up, you will have seen as much as anyone else, of the animated show. So us critters that know what happens from their live game, wont know “how they wanna do this”

  8. You may have been told this already. Sam Riegel– the man who voices Scanlan – I'm pretty sure is an Emmy award-winning songwriter. In the campaign all of his songs were riffs on existing music. But obviously for the show copyright would have been an issue. This shows he is such a show-off LOL. But with good reason.

  9. I may be bias because I love playing clerics, but Pike is my absolute favorite and I always get emotional during her power plays. I also refuse to watch trailers of things i'm really into so I haven't seen anything for Vox 2. I want to be surprised.

  10. Vax & Keyleths Love story will bring a tear to your eye.
Now did Delilah go and find the Book or retrieve it?
No spoilers, but the person in the Dungeon, is arguably worse than Delilah. if I had two bullets and her and Delilah I would shoot her twice.

  11. In D&D the cleric class is op against undead. Clerics have a spell that allows them to destroy every low level undead within a 30 feet radius instantly. That's what they're showing Pike doing here.

  12. I watched the season 2 trailer. It does give away a lot of things. Not enough to know what's going on, but if you don't want any spoilers then I would recommend against seeing it. If you do want to see it anyway, then definitely keep to the plan to wait until you finish this season. Of course, by then, season 2 may already have a few episodes up.

    "Be free like Scanlan is."
    Be confidently, unapologetically, you. Basically.

These zombies move quickly because they are born from magic. Magic lets them move, not necessarily their muscles.

  13. Poor Archibald, he doesn`t deserve that. But, i guess, judging by his recklessness, he never really cared if he stays alive or not. Maybe he knew that resistance won`t be destroyed, when there`s hope and Vox Machina is around? And I love his dynamic with Percy – every time any decision appears Archie immediately pushes Percy to a position of a leader, despite him being good leader himself. I guess this is something that he`s used to from his childhood – he and Percy may be friends, but they are not entirely equal and Archibald sees him as more important one and as the one who should lead people by birthright.

Also, I love the scene when Percy delivers his speech – he faces the Tree and it`s almost likes he swears an oath to the sacred tree of Whitestone :3

(random compliment: your hairstyle is beautiful, I love it :3)

  14. noting this early but i know it's said in this episode, this was NOT the first time Scanlan asked Pike to marry him, i feel like i remember him asking ATLEAST once a session when Pike was with the group, he was a lot more aggressive about his advances to Pike, still in his scanlan way and not full on incel or anything but it was so often Pike just typically ignored him outright when he did it xD someone feel free to correct me if i'm remembering this wrong :3

  15. Tbh, when I listened to Vox Machina (Season 1 in general), I only really liked Scanlan (Sam Riegels character) and Grog (Travis Willinghams character) and did not give much about the rest (maybe Pike a little). Later, in Season 2 (with totally different characters), the characters I liked most were the characters of three other people (Laura Bailey's character Jester, Taliesin Jaffe's character Caduceus Clay and Marisha Ray's character Beauregard), which I find really funny. So far not really a fan of Liam O'Brien's characters, although I really enjoyed seeing him on "All Work No Play" and his VO work.

  16. A lot of people miss it because it's so quick, but Grog says, 'Do you want me to whack it off (scanlan's arm) for you?' 'You might have to (whack me off) if I lose it!'

Scanlan thinks Grog is offering to give him a handjob

  17. Interesting thing about the Briarwoods. Remember when they said they weren’t from Whitestone? They actually fled there from another continent entirely. Mostly from Delilah’s increasing reputation of practicing illegal necromancy. Something she had been involved in BEFORE Silas’ illness.

  18. When Delilah casts the spell to save her husband, the face on the ceiling is Vecna. An evil undead demi-god. He is also called the 'Whispered One' or an evil god of secrets. They can not call him Vecna in the show due to copyright. He led Delilah to his book in order for her to use his power and become a necromancer. Since she was willing to do anything to save Sylus, it was an easy partnership. Won't say anymore to avoid spoilers.
