What another fantastic episode. Very much the second part of last week’s Kansas City adventure, episode 5 of HBO’s The Last of Us is equal parts thrilling and distressing. Fugitive brothers Henry and Sam add a welcome layer of warmth to Joel and Ellie’s relationship, helping our protagonists progress on both their physical and emotional journeys, as well as leading them to one of the action high points in the series. It’s an unforgettable and explosive end to a chapter whose fuse steadily burned throughout this and the previous episode.

Knew they would do this part of the game good with Henry and Sam. I feel they made it hit even harder with Sam being deaf and having to communicate with him differently and building more of a connection between the four of them. You could really see in the end how much of an effect that this will have on Joel and Ellie. To me It kind of had a parallel story going between them in how Henry will do anything to protect Sam and same goes for Joel with Ellie.
She lost her brother but didn’t Kathleen have an entire room of people murdered? Because of her need for revenge, probably all of Kansas was killed.
Sam and Henry hit hard in both mediums.
That big one is called the Bloater 😂😂…I hated those things in the game

The little changes they implemented with this episode in comparison to the original story lends itself better to what plays out later. Very smart of them to do it this way
If you listen to the podcast creator/writer/director was choking up so much at the death scene. Took so much for him to not cry. 😢😢 it was one of the sadder episodes.
Joel softens as Ellie hardens 😢
In the podcast they also state that the sniper is around 70/80 I believe. So he has seen so much that he looked for a way out of it. He wanted Joel to end it. He was tired.
Loving the show and the reactions. So intense at times, good thing I got my shittin' pants on!
The way I see it, Kathleen may have been alive physically but she was just as dead as Henry became after losing Sam. Because what is life when the people that matter the most are gone? Henry couldn’t continue on after Sam but even if he had lived, he might have become someone like Kathleen who is cold and dead inside after her loss. What I love the most about this show is that no one is really truly a hero or a villain, everyone is just a human being doing what they can and trying to deal with the losses and trauma. Everyone deals with it differently.
This show is wrecking me in so many ways. I know it may sound silly but Ellie's reaction when Henry shoots himself is such an intense raw piece of acting that gives me the chills everytime I watch it. What an incredible young actress.
The ending of this episode was not real surprise to me. As a long time HBO viewer, I have seen a repetitive trend trend the writers at HBO have. They love give the viewer a likeable character and then rip your heart out by killing them off. 😪Where only on episode 5 and the have done it four times already. Tess, Bill and Frank and now this poor boy. (All though I do have a pretty strong gut feeling that Bill may not actually be dead). They have been loyal to the game story so far and Bill does not die early on in the game, so we will see about Bill (or not).
I'm glad that they mentioned that the characters are written in shades of grey. People are just trying to survive. They're trying to protect their loved ones. Decisions are made based on those two things.
I find it funny reading comments from reactions that there are people that stand in judgement of what Henry did and what Kathleen does but completely forget that one of the main characters Joel has done things similar and worse to survive and protect his loved ones. Everyone seems to conveniently forget that. 😏. I'll just leave it there.

When all of the infested burst out of the sinkhole, my jaw DROPPED. I was expecting the Bloater… but I was NOT expecting the Runners!
As the creators said episode 3 is the only happy episode.
The last moments are amazing Henry's shock on shooting his baby brother, Eli's reaction on Henry killing himself is really sad and great acting.
its ironic how the virus is more so collecting hosts, adding all to its mycelial network, never really attacking itself. as opposed to humanity which is willing to destroy even itself in order to maintain itself.
I just got to say, no offense to the other guys, but I'm here for Oak's reactions and commentary. He's not trying to make funny comments during tension, he truly lets his emotions show and has amazing heartfelt commentary at the end.
Absolutely devastated, that was my reaction.

Imagine we started the story with Cathleen and her brother , we woulda been on their side for sure , like I know from this perspective it’s wrong them killing everyone but I’d happily do the same if I find who killed my brother . Not a question . Glad she’s dead but just gotta think that perspective – other than the kids die part
Loved Perry though the voice actor in the game for tommy , he was a badass tryna take down that big one (won’t say it’s name)

The way the bloater (the big fuck off infected dude) ripped off Perry's head is the same as the death animation in the game when they grab you. Nice little detail I liked.
Excuse my language, but DAMN ….. I was not prepared at all for the ending. I knew the outcome, but it went into such intensity straight into such sadness. Talk about a rollercoaster of emotions. This episode was amazing !

When Sam and Henry die in the game it absolutely destroyed me, keep in mind I was around 15 when the game came out in 2013. I couldn’t keep playing for a couple minutes, I was in utter shock.

As a big, big fan of the game, I like the changes in this episodes. I love the show for being true tu the game but change enough to keep me invested and at the edge of my seat.

and i really really loved ellie and sam's relationship in the show, the only bit i think i prefer the game over the show is the way henry reacted (might be nostalgia bias talking though, or the background music in the game lmao), but damn this was amazing, especially ellie's reaction to henry ending it
