  1. Great vid, there were a few moments in the game where there is dialogue that implies joel and tess were at least fbw, and then when she sacrifices herself she says that "there must be enough here that you feel some sort of obligation to me", which implies romantic feelings were there too, even if joel didn't want to admit it.

  2. I haven't watched the video yet (because it just came out) but I was /hoping/ someone would do a comparison between the two. Personally, I see Game Bill as an example of Joel's 'Bad' Ending and Show Bill as Joel's 'Good' Ending, a warning for Joel in universe about his choices (weather or not he realizes it)

  3. Ill just vent here for a second, sorry, you can just not read this, TW: homophobia i guess, but i was really excited to watch this new episode of the last of us, but here in romania, ever since this episode came out all of the forums are filled with people hating on the show for their portrayal of gay people, they are calling us all sort of names, and im honestly so tired to see people all of a sudden change their perspective on a piece of media because they dared to show a gay relationship… I couldn't bring myself to watch it and i dont know why these comments affected me so much but they did. so here i am sad that so many people in this fucking country hates us for no reason and say all of this horrible shit without any remorse. I even hoped things got better since we started getting a few lgbtq creators and allys but it seems im wrong , and people are still bigoted

  4. Alternate title for the video "Oops All Bills: A 3rd Bills Analysis of Bill 1 and 2" Honestly tho great video! It has been a weird experience seeing people say that they changed Bill making him a queer character cuz I'm replaying both games and there is no heterosexual explanation for the change in Bill's demeanor in finding Franks body, And that's not even taking into account the Bearskin magazine Ellie stole lol. Like I feel we're doomed as a society to be surrounded by people unironically saying "They were good friends, and roommates"

  5. I love hearing you talk about pretty much anything and I’m so happy you made a video about this show, especially about Bill as a character. I wasn’t really interested him in the game but episode 3 and now your analysis of both versions of his character has given me a newfound appreciation for him. ALSO YES PLEASE MAKE A VIDEO ABOUT TOMMY BEING THE DEVIL OF THIS STORY THANK YOU!

  6. The game did hint at Joel and Tess being together in a sense but it was very very subtle. Between Tess saying "there must be enough here that you feel some kind of obligation to me" and Bill telling Joel "I thought you two were inseparable, sounds like there might be trouble in paradise". I kinda of got the impression it was just a "we work well together and we can fulfill each other's physical needs for human touch" sort of thing in the game. The HBO show has definitely let the feeling of human longing breath a little in a way that works more for a shorter TV series. I'm glad we're seeing these characters who are putting on a tough face actually struggle a bit with holding on to that forced apathy.

  7. SPOILERS

Both versions of Bill exist to show us what Joel COULD become, just in different ways. Game Bill is a cautionary tale about where Joel's isolation could eventually lead him, whereas Show Bill presents a more hopeful idea of what Joel could have if he opened himself up. However, the latter is also tragic, Joel's Frank was Tess, he never let her in and now it's too late.

I also love how Bill's letter in the end describes Joel's arc perfectly, this idea of protecting those you love taken to the absolute extreme.

  8. About halfway through the video so maybe you mentioned it, but another random thing I love about the fence scene with Bill is it’s another nod to Joel’s past working construction. Like of course he knows how fast XYZ fence material will degrade, and of course he knows why the ruins of an apartment complex are the way they are in the prior episode. (Tess’ joke about Construction Corner with Joel Miller was so funny). I love how the show reminds us that these characters had a past and a life before the apocalypse in ways that are so small.

  9. You mention enjoying seeing a hairy dude being appreciated – I think that was something that landed well for a lot of folks! Nick Offerman is no one's idea of ugly, but as Bill, he's a little wild-looking, so to see Frank look at him and immediately get hearts in his eyes? It's fantastic.

  10. YES. Everything about this. Something that also stood out to me was how Bill made a point to keep track of time after the outbreak. It’s another side of him that isn’t necessarily practical, but still a part of humanity that is clearly important to him. It made me realize how much a of luxury it is (especially in that world) to not only know what day it is, but to know the hour of the day. The clock chiming every now and then, the fact that he put the date in the corner of his letter to Joel. It’s such a clear contrast to Joel, who has been stuck on the night he lost his daughter and still wears a broken watch 20 years later. And Ellie breaking the clock at the end… good thing she did that after Bill and Frank died.

  12. I don't get people who complain when a live action adaptation is different than the source material. Like…yeah, it kind of has to be different otherwise it would just be the game. And the game already exists. To play/watch at your convenience. Of course with this specific episode I think most people who are incessantly complaining are homophobes, even if they try to disguise it as them just wanting the show to be exactly like the game. I'm dreading the constant waves of hate season 2 will definitely get when it has everything those people hate. Buff Abby, Trans Lev, AND Ellie and Dina's relationship. Lord help us all.

  13. Joel and Tess have a line of dialogue during gameplay in which Joel jokes about being a romantic and Tess replying with "you have your ways." That plus the other hints like the obligation line made me think they were at least aware of each other's feelings and maybe were on the verge of a relationship, if not already having some romantic connection they acted on when it wasn't time for business.

  14. This video has convinced me to watch the the series. I have heard it was well written which made me pleased but not curious. However, hearing the level of tenderness they have added to a character we won't get to spend that long with in the game is precious. I want you to make all the Last of Us videos you want. The world of this game can read as so brutal and cynical, but hearing you breakdown the gentle whispers hiding within it is just baller. I am intrigued to hear your future thoughts.

  15. That episode hit me and my fiance really hard. In a good way. Just made us very emotional. I was at least familiar with the game, but never really got who Frank was, so I was not even a little prepared 😭 💔
Thank you for taking the time to make this video
